The fox, the fox
Lied
Eyes under my prize
The fox, the fox
Lied
Fox eyes under my prize
We're in a different war
With ourselves, and with some of you
So many things that don't hold true
With the fear that dims our light
With the barnacles on our right
On the grass, beachy head
On the cliff to which you've been lead
The curve of the hill is green and soft
As if the wind would hold you aloft
Its how you feel for me now, not how you felt
Its how you deal with envy, not how you dealt
Recognise and send away, set it asail
Serenity inside of me
We're in a different war
With ourselves, and with some of you
So many things that can't be true
On the grassy beachy head
On the cliff where you were laid
The curve, the hill is green and soft
As if the wind would hold you
Serenity inside of me
Set asail
But you'll sail alone
If you don't hold the rope
You'll go alone
Lied
Eyes under my prize

I watched Quadrophenia the other day; in the end scene the main character throws his motorbike off Beachy Head which is a notorious suicide spot in Great Britain. Nada Surf have punk roots I'm sure they've seen the film. Either the song is about that, or about someone they know who may have committed or attempted suicide.
I disagee; this is my favorite song on the CD. I think envy is wrong to dislike songs for what they stand for. I feel like it is a war of nature, within themselves, not a literal war.
I agree wit Envy337. I went to a show last weekend and Matthew said that this song was written about FOX news at a time when he was scared of them. He also said that now we have nothing to be scared of so now the song is simply about the animal. :)

Hah, I bet they've changed their tune back to the original these days. Fox is worse now than ever.

"Eyes under my prize"?
I'm hearing "Eyes on the wrong prize", a modification of the "Keep your eye on the prize" idiom.
Matthew spoke about this song during a gig. It's about Fox broadcasting company which he deemed representing the Republican party.
I think it's actually "Its how you deal with enmity, not how you dealt"
Unlike some other commenters, I enjoy music with political messages.
Obviously about the war in Iraq. "The Fox lied"; Fox news, the media lying. Probably my least favorite song from "Lucky". I'm not a fan of songs with a political type message.
