this is a really good song, i think it means something about two people and there life was going good and he was who made her happy but in return he was still empty. so he left her or she left him hence "i need something to fill this void"
i think this song is about a one-sided relationship. the guy gets treated like shit and even though he did everything right, the girl doesnt love him. he knows one day she'll realize what a mistake she made but it's pretty small fucking consolation in the present.

Ahhh I love it, but I can't choose a favourite song. Impossible, to be honest. Yeah, he's feeling bad that he wasn't reciprocated, and it's kinda being sarcastic. He's also saying he can't be fucked with the person anymore, and he'll get over it and be fine, but he's reflecting... i dunno i'm dumb.
i think this is how underappreciated someone important it i.e. a doctor he tries so hard to become a doctor and no matter how good he is, people only point out his fuck ups and how he gives up and deleberately fails

They don't want to let their child go and they obsolete becuase they're leaving home or simply needing them less and less. The 'yet I sleep alone tonight' and bitter tone suggest this.
