The song seems to be basically that y'all can blame gangsta rap for all that is evil as much as you like, but our society was already plenty shitty to begin with.
Cube is stating how society tends to what to blame all the bad things that happen on things like gangsta rap, violent video games or movies, etc. Cube is pulling the piss out of the whole situation and people's tendancies to want to blame anything but themselves by saying all the things I do, if you don't like or aprove or it, then i'm gonna say 'gangsta rap made me do it.'
I think this song goes a little deeper than the actions of Cube. Hes not saying get off my back. Hes really mocking Western Society. Look at us. Really, were completely morally corrupt.

I think this time is near. Hes pointing out the fact that every wrong we do, "its not our fault". School shooting? the kid played to many violent video games, its not because he had shitty parents and teachers. Thats just one of many examples. Hes saying that we ignore the truth and look whats happening because of it. hes shouting out to us whats really happening in the world around us.
This is an examination on how everyone blames societies ills on gangsta rap, if you are looking for something to blame something bad on jus blame gangsta rap and there will be another volley against it. I think the Don Imus thing probably inspired most of this song. Probably the most important record of 2008
I know I'm probably going to get some hatred over what I'm about to say because I guess most people who read these lyrics are into gangsta rap, but I'm going to give you my two cents anyway.
I believe none of the evils in society can be fully attributed to gangsta rap. I do believe though that the youth today is heavily influenced by gangsta rap. You can try to justify the lyrics of gangsta rap all you want, but the fact of the matter is that those lyrics glorify gangbanging, drug dealing, robbery, etc. and there's really no way around it. I don't know about you but I believe anybody who kills and robs innocent people belongs in jail and not on a record making millions off of it. Now I'm not saying Ice Cube, or most gangsta rappers for that matter, ever killed anybody, but I've heard tons of rap lyrics bragging about how they shoot gats and sell dope. What I don't get is why do people listen to rap that's the same fake bullshit about guns and crack when there are so many great rap artists out there that don't feel the need to prove their manhood by rapping about criminal stuff? Ever listened to a Lupe Fiasco track? Look up Lupe Fiasco's ''The Coolest'' on this website and read the comments discussing THE MEANING of the song (yes, that song actually has a meaning). Check out the great wordplay and metaphors, and compare that song to your average Ice Cube song (Ice Cube is just an example, I have nothing against him is specific.) Doesn't Ice Cube look retarded by comparison? Where is his lyricism?
Honestly, a 10 year old could write your average gangsta rap lyrics. Write some sentences about your money, your hoes and your guns, make 'em rhyme and congratulations, you may have just written a succesful song to show on BET. If you throw in one metaphor you've probably already topped the lyrical value of all of 50 Cent and Young Jeezy's work combined.
One last thing. I used to listen to gangsta rap too. I used to think it's pretty damn cool to be from the ghetto and be a thug. Then I started listening to some Kanye West, some Talib Kweli, some Mos Def, etc. Now my eyes are open to the fact that gangsta rap is one of the most retarded genres of music to ever exist.
