Moab Lyrics

I used up your compassion
So I've come to make a trade
You can hate me but just love me in return
If I know where to find you
I'll stay out of your way
I won't come beg to borrow
All the happiness you've earned

I'll just slide back down to the bottom
While you make your place in the hills
There's nothing that the road cannot heal
There's nothing that the road cannot heal
Washed beneath the blacktop
Gone beneath my wheels
There's nothing that the road cannot heal
Woo!

They say the sun won't burn forever
That's a science too exact
I can prove it, watch, we're crossing the state line
See those headlights coming towards us?
That's someone going back
To a town they said they'd never, yeah
They swore it on their lives

You can't break out of a circle
That you never knew you were in
And there's nothing that the road cannot heal
Nothing that the road cannot heal
Washed under the blacktop
Gone beneath my wheels
There's nothing that the road cannot heal

Some will spend their precious time
Trying to decorate their lives
Taking measurements for some new look they want
So from 1-10, 10's exactly what I am
0 being everything I'm not

Tell me what you like
Is it less than 5?
Is it less than 5?

There's nothing that the road cannot heal
There's nothing that the road cannot heal
When I make it to nowhere
I'll get my canteen filled
There's nothing that the road cannot heal
Washed beneath the blacktop
Gone beneath my wheels
There's nothing that the road cannot heal

Firstly, it's called "Moab" (people could at least get the real titles before sticking lyrics up here sigh)

Anyways, ParkerEloise, it's exactly what it says.

If 10 is everything he is, and 0 is everything he isn't, is what the person likes less than 5 (as in, they like more of what he's not than what he is)...

Love this song, love the whole album actually =P

"i'll get my canteen fiddle" is actually "ill get my canteen filled."

pure compassion > your compassion to exact > too exact swore it all their lives > swore it on their lives someone spend > some will spend

"when I make it to Moab, I'll get my canteen filled"

I love this!!! The road symbolizes a life time, like some of his other songs he speaks about time/scales and how they always find a way to balance things out. mmmm lol I’m not sure how to sound like a lyrics mogul maybe because I cant exactly express what I want to say through my explanations on comments lol but I understand what it means and me explaining it for ‘song meanings’ sake has failed as I am not bothered to explain things for that I have trouble understanding them my self. But Conor Oberst is my god though! And all the meanings people have commented so far on all Conor’s songs are all from one person’s point of view or an assumption of what they think the lyrics mean.

so from 1-10, 10's exactly what I am 0 being everything I'm not

tell me what you like is it less than 5? is it less than 5?

this is like the best part of a song ever but what does it mean

I love this part too. I think what he's saying here, from previous lines, is that everyone is always judging things based on a certain scale. He is asking someone here (I am assuming a woman), on a scale of 0-10 (where 10 represents Conor and 0 represents the exact opposite of Conor) what she prefers in a person (or partner), and if it's less than 5 then Conor doesn't measure up to her standards. So perhaps in this song, Conor has taken to the road in order to get over this person... "There's nothing that the...

I always meant it kinda like "how much am I willing to compromise myself and change to be liked by you? I am 10, and 0 is everything I am not. Life is compromise, and so is love, but it is also staying true to oneself amidst all that compromising. So, my offer is 5. I can change some, but no more than that. If you can't accept this because you want a prince charming or whatever falls into "less than 5", then maybe you are not willing to compromise. so why would I? we're in a mess, baby".

What exactly does he say in the "WOO!" Part?

I can tell it's obviously spanish. If know or have any idea, please post... I'd love you forever, you'd be my God.

During the "Woo!" part, it sounds like he is saying "Claro que si" which means "Of course" in Spanish.

I'm 99% sure that's what he's saying.

yeah the "whoo!" part is definitely him saying "claro que si" the spanish is incorporated in this one as well as "eagle on a pole" where he says "el cielo es azul". the spanish is because this album was written and recorded in mexico.
