New Soul Lyrics

I'm a new soul
I came to this strange world
hoping I could learn a bit about how to give and take
But since I came here, felt the joy and the fear
finding myself making every possible mistake

la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...

I'm a young soul in this very strange world
hoping I could learn a bit about what is true and fake
But why all this hate, try to communicate
finding trust and love is not always easy to make

la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...

This is a happy end
'cause you don't understand
everything you have done
why's everything so wrong?
This is a happy end
come and give me your hand
I'll take your far away

I'm a new soul
I came to this strange world
hoping I could learn a bit about how to give and take
but since I came here, felt the joy and the fear
finding myself making every possible mistake

la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...

la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la....

You have to see her music video to really understand what the song is about.

We all start out in this life painting this picture of what we want in life. The simple things, to love and be loved. We surround ourselves with these ideas of what our idea of life should be. In the video you see her putting up wall paper of a wilderness scene in her tiny apartment, hanging up photos of people. You can see her pet goldfish dead. To me that symbolized that all of these ideas we have in our head are just ideas, they have no life but then one day you tear down the walls that you have built up only to find that everything you ever wanted... it was always right in front of you, you just could not see it because of the walls you had built up. She symbolized this by hanging a photo.. but taking a second look at it saw "through" the wall to what was real and what was right before her that whole time.

Sometimes we can't see the forest from the trees.

You're so right! Sometimes you have to blow the walls out!

On her website, Naim says of this song: "It was when I was really young that I sincerely believed to be an old soul reincarnated and I could even say it gave me a sense of superiority over others. But then as I subsequently did everything the wrong way round I concluded that it was actually my first time on earth and that I should learn to be a more humble." The song is about reincarnation and her experiences with it.

A new soul represents someone young and innocent. It's about someone young fighting the every day battles, trying to learn the right balance of how much to give and take, what's the truth, what's lies. Obviously they make mistakes along the way because everyone does. "This is a happy end. Come and give me your hand, I'll take you far away." I believe is about finally understanding this and helping someone else who doesn't have the experience that he does to get through it. Giving someone else a guiding hand where he didn't have it before? Just an idea.

It's about a girl who falls in love with someone and shows them her world from her perspcetive, with her "New Soul" that is so pure. She is innocent, even after feeling all the pain and fear and making mistakes. She kind of reminds me of Stargirl, from the book by Jerry Spinelli. That is how I interpret it. This song is so bubly, like indiediane said. I absolutley love it!

Stargirl! :D best character ever :)

This sounds pretty stupid but when i hear the lyrics to this song, i think of rebirth. She's lived different lives before and when each 1 reached an end she has to start over again forgetting everything she once learned.

Yeah, I think that's right. In addition, the bridge, I'm certain that the voice that speaks, "This is a happy end / 'cause you don't understand..." is not the same voice as the "new soul." It's someone/something else. A guide, perhaps. Someone or something shepherding the new soul through incarnations.

p.s. to add to above, i would like to say that she by no means feels upset. she sees as the whole experiance is enlightening. somehow this delights her and she is happy....

I think this song is about an immigrant (new soul) coming to America (strange world) who wants to learn about capitalism (give and take).
