In this stanza I think that it is about two people that are not together anymore but still love each other, so the boy indulges in drugs and ultimately, overdoses and dies. And these lyrics are after he dies and he is a phantom lamenting about what he has done and lost.

"Everything I tried to do My heart in silence weeps Whispered me away from you My heart in silence weeps"

This stanza is a little bit more puzzling, but I get the impression that the boy tried to get back together with the girl but the girl couldn't find herself to do it. "Whispered me away from you" kind of gives me the impression that she told him to leave her alone because it was too painful for her. Or, there is something keeping him back from getting close to her while he is a phantom.

"You are present in my sleep You haunt me when I'm awake My thoughts you always seem to keep Is it too late?"

The only way they can be together is in her dreams, but she knows it is wrong since he's gone, so seeing him only in dreams is so painful to her. When she is awake she can feel his prescence and she's can't stop thinking about him no matter how hard she tries.

"If you and I cannot be one My heart in silence weeps Then forever will be gone My heart in silence weeps Now that I've lost everything My heart in silence weeps""

As a phantom, he now realizes that since he's dead that they cannot be together again, and ultimately, she was the one that he was keeping him behind so he decides to move on to the next life, still with heavy remorse and a broken heart, that he was the reason why they couldn't be united.

I think as a hwhole this song is about how by trying to numb his pain from the girl he loves he lost everything as a result, including her.
