Convinced I'm wrong Lyrics

Don't try and sound right, just hope your honest
Trust you'll end up somewhere
That girl that made you promise
she says "try not to care"
I don't know if I'm good, and everyone knows it
You ever feel you were meant to be alone?
Because I saw a play and and a character said
that he was destined to never feel at home
Don't go tonight, I'm looking for salt in a snow globe
Because what I had is slipping fast.
Dr. Howe, Please call back
I'm not sleeping in, I don't care
I'm singing loud but no one hears
I'll wake up tomorrow and still feel wrong for these days
What I had is slipping fast
Dr. Howe Please call me back.
What good am I to anyone like this?
It's been a hard couple months I'll admit
After tonight I'm not so convinced that I'm wrong
I feel at ease with my lows, and I'll take it.
Lord knows I'll take it.
Tonight they're explainable, far from extraneous.
Always expectant
I seldom discover or turn flaws into questions.
Great questions of the times.
I guess I'm an artist who's confines brought him luck choked by second guessing
I know that's not enough.

Hes look for salt in a snow globe, what he had is slipping fast. That could mean a lot of things, but its easy to find something in your own life that it fits into. Thats why its a good song. I like how he says " I guess Im an artist, whose confines brought him luck, chocked by second guessing." I take this to mean, he supposes his songwriting and singing, makes him someone who is popularly thought of as an artist eventhough hes just some guy, and the confines of his ability have brought him luck, meaning that the fact that he cant just create songs of any genre and style have lead him to make songs such as his own but that has brought him luck, as people like the songs he and the rest of PBC have written, even though he is always second guessing whether or not what he writes is good or not. ( im just speculating, it sounds good thouigh right?) but he 'know[s] thats not enough." nothing ever is.

This song is about a being depresed and being depresed for a long time. about "that girl that made you promise to try not to care" try not to care about the things that are making you depressed. this guy thinks he will be lonely forever and I would asume he probobly likes this girl and her saying that would make him even more depressed. this person is looking all over for a way to feel better but does not find it so he settles for "I feel at ease with my lows, and I'll take it. Lord knows I'll take it." His music has taken off and his band is doing well but that is not helping with his depresion.

He is so depresed that he has called Dr. Howe for help....I would asume for some type of anti depresent.

My Interpretation

This is by far a great song.

-Don't try and sound right, just hope your honest -Trust you'll end up somewhere -That girl that made you promise -she says "try not to care"

You tell yourself not to think about things deeply. This is about trying to have hope.

-I don't know if I'm good, and everyone knows it -You ever feel you were meant to be alone? -Because I saw a play and and a character said -that he was destined to never feel at home

It's obvious to others that you're not 'good'. And to yourself that makes you feel more isolated. You feel more normal to be on your own. The reference to the literature may be of a play but also a comparison of a typical tradegy and that your feelings are 'typical' and 'normal'.

-Don't go tonight, I'm looking for salt in a snow globe -Because what I had is slipping fast. -Dr. Howe, Please call back

You look for the negative, even when there isn't one (salt in a snow globe). What may be slipping fast may not be slipping at all, just feels that way. Also sounds fed up and needs help (don't go / please call back).

-I'll wake up tomorrow and still feel wrong for these days

Even if you get a good day, you know you'll wake up to the next day feeling 'wrong'.

-It's been a hard couple months I'll admit -After tonight I'm not so convinced that I'm wrong

Sounds like the coming to terms of yourself and seeing that you're ill or just who you are rather than 'wrong'.

-Tonight they're explainable, far from extraneous.

Feel at ease with the low, you feel you can handle it. You can understand why and what it means. It doesn't feel like the depression is something you can't understand, it feels closer to who you are, something you have control on.

Song Meaning

I think this song is actually about being down on yourself and trying to find the positives in life. "Don't try and sound right, just hope your honest, trust you'l end up somewhere." To me its saying don't always try to do what others say is the right thing to do, instead do what you feel is the best for yourself, and what you think is the right thing to do. Make yourself happy in your own life. " I'm looking for salt in a salt in a snow globe." I'm looking for the the good things in life, the salt that signifies happiness in situations or snow globes. "I'll wake up tomorrow and not feel wrong for these days." "I'll feel at ease with my lows, and lord knows that I'll take it. After tonight Im not so convinced that im wrong." Its understanding that who I am is who I am, and thats the best that I can be. I'm trying to learn to make the best of my situations, maybe the luck of making it somewhat successful as a singer is what I am. To me, its basically about finding what your best at, and whether others think its wrong or not, its what your passionate about and fulfilling your goals is what makes you who you are.
