Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
This one has been bugging me so I'll give it a shot:
Fagen and Becker have a history of simplifying their explanations like most artists.
You've got three verses and the final one is extremely complex to figure out.
The first verse he talks about going into the cave as a kid. He's exploring doing what kids do.
The second verse he talks about the cave paintings he found.
The verse explains they were written because they were aware of their mortality and they wrote it for us to see and for us to understand them.
The last verse he has visited the cave as an adult and he is the cave paintings. He's aware of his mortality. He's become them. Now I step out in the sun he leaves the cave.
