Islands on the Coast Lyrics

Here's a copy
of a lesson you know,
and put the kind words to bed.

For man don't say why,
or even know how,
it's only awful as
the hell that you know.

When eyelids want to close,
eyelids want to close,
they'll know how,
yeah, they'll know how.

And only hours before
the house had burned down,
he shut the other door.

But if i don't see now,
or even know why,
it's only awful
as the hell that you know.

When eyelids want to close,
eyelids want to close,
they'll know how,
yeah, they'll know how.

Home, home, home (x4).

He was writing in
the lesson you know,
let's take the other door.

Now if i don't think right,
or even know how,
it's only awful
as the hell that you know.

When eyelids want to close,
eyelids want to close,
they'll know how,
yeah, they'll know how.

Home, home, home (x4).

Even though the lyrics aren't Islands on the Coast, this song makes me picture myself in a boat off the coast sailing past islands on a beautiful bright sunny day

The line is definitely: "Eyelids want to close." Quoting, now:

“That song’s kind of a metaphor for closing the door on certain things from the past and moving forward,” Bridwell explains later. “The lyric actually says ‘eyelids want to close,’ but I always thought it sounded like ‘islands on the coast,’ so I named it that to screw with people. That song deals with some things that went down before we left Seattle. I liked the metaphor of an eyelid closing. It can mean a lot of things, but I thought it worked well for talking about that.”

That's the best I can do, it might be "when islands on the coast, islands on the coast will know how" but I can't really hear it well enough. Feel free to help me out :)

it's definitely not he was riding in... etc. that whole 3 line part is kinda off. props for trying, cause i have no idea what it is instead, but i don't think that part is right. good song though.

Yeah I know it's off, for certain parts I just had to make something up so it would pass submission (since they don't allow you to put ?'s in place of words). When someone else can give me a better choice of words I will consider them :D

I totally love this song, I've been trying to figure out he's saying for the longuest time. I think this sounds pretty good, even if sometimes it's not exactly it, but it's a lot better what I thought it was.

Anyway I always thought he was saying "Island towards the coast", maybe?

This is great. Anyone familiar with Animal Collective? I feel like some stuff is borrowed from them in this song.

I read somewhere that someone thought the line might be "When eyelids want to close (They'll know how...)" I know this has nothing to do with "Islands on the coast" but now whenever I listen to the song that's what I hear. This probably has something to do with how that line would relate to the (going) home theme I percieved in the song. Yeah, I have no idea. Great song though.

if i didn't know any better i'd probably mistake this for the shins.
