Voice of Reason Lyrics

It took a blow to the head
And I realized what I
Was put on this earth to achieve
It showed me the way
So make an example of me
Hang me up from the tallest tree
Make an example of me

This is not the voice of reason
It's the cross I was chosen to bear
This is not the voice of reason

My time has surely come
I'm as guilty as can be
This is treason
In the first degree
Now the gallows tree
she calls to me my name
There can be no reprieve for me now
In this lifetime

This is not the voice of reason
It's the cross I was chosen to bear
This is not the voice of reason

Make an example of me
Make an example of me

This is about James Hadfield who was injured in the Battle of Roubaix and subsequently went a bit mad and tried to assassinate the king of England in order to be put to death, believing that this sacrifice would instigate the second coming of Christ. At the trial his lawyers pleaded insanity and he was not put to death but spent the rest of his life in the secure wing of a hospital. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Hadfield
