I love this song sooooo much!!! It's the best song I've heard in a while. I think the lyrics are wrong though. Does it really say "I'll be a sailor"? I've been listening to it a lot and I think the chorus goes "I'll be your saint, I'll be your man". I might be wrong, but that's what I think... I love Billie Joe's voice and this song is so comforting and it makes me feel so good. Can't stop listening it. I had almost forgotten how much I love Green Day.

It does say "I'll be your saint,I'll be your man" which is pretty cool. I didnt like this song at first, but by the second listen of actually hearing the lyrics its awesome. Reminds me of some kind of untainted love, but I can see the summer connection.
After listening to this song for a while, I wonder... is it about pot? Kind of a crackhead conclusion, but I started thinking [ Mother Mary -> Mary Jane -> Marijuana ]? And since it's pretty obvious at least Billie Joe is in this band...
I like this song, either way. It makes me feel happy and relaxed... sounds like the point of pot :] Okay, enough of that. Billie Joe has a lovely voice that I find... soothing? I'm not sure if that's the word I'm looking for.

And I find his voice soothing too. It always makes me feel better when I feel helplessly lonely. I have days when GD is all I can listen to.
and also, other foxboro songs are talking about Mary. are you saying they are all about pot.
I can see the 420 connection here, but it's true that the character Mary was mentioned in another song. That could detach this song from the rest, sort of. The lyrics on this album seem to follow a story the way American Idiot did, though a bit more loosely.
