Arms Lyrics

You left your black gloves on my table
You left your dying horse in the stable
Thinking of a way to get you to stay
And up I was to fight the wind and waves for you

I'm an owl with giant eyes
I'm the scarecrow in the skies
The ultimate goal out facing the north
I wanted to stay inside and look down below with you

You never said then when I was in your arms
That was the moment that you lost your charm
An old bear paw, sitting in a jar
And the trees, they never grew any leaves

Shake my arms, shake my head
I fell asleep when you got well
And I'm turning for the lights tonight
Saw you in a crowd, you are pale with hungry eyes

funny thing. i was just about to post my interpretation of this song. there are a few differences here and there but it seems we got most of it.

anyway here is what i hear:

You left your black gloves on my table You left your dying horse in the stable

Figuring out a way to get you to stay And I'll promise to Fight the wind and waves from you

I'm an owl with tired eyes I'm the scarecrow in disguise The absolute con

I would, babe, sing You know like when you do stay inside Look out, I will... hmm hmm, with you

There was a dead mouse in your arms That was the moment that you lost your charm No bear paw sitting in a jar, you know

And your tree never grew any leaves Shake my arms, shake my head I fell asleep on your cobweb

And I'm turning from all the lights tonight So you and that crowd are Pale with hungry eyes

well, i'm not saying that yours is wrong or anything like that. all i'm saying is that i hear things differently.

I always thought it was a dead mouse in your arms aswell. either way its still an amazing song, and if you go on youtube and watch their living room preformance, it is ten times better.

I always thought it was dead rose Pretty

i heard it as 'dead rose' too, it seems to fit better too

It's clearly an "m" sound. If it was "rose" he would at least roll the "r" slightly. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

I was reading through my blog and came across a poem that I wrote down after finding it in a photography magazine. The line "I'm an owl with tired eyes/I'm a scarecrow in disguise," word for word, is in the poem. It is called "Ethereal Sunflower" by Kara Troglin. I wonder which came first, the poem or the song, and I wonder if there's a reason behind the reference. Anyone have any idea?

Tried looking for that poem online but couldn't find it.. would love to read it! do you know where I could locate it?

This is a song about a man who is going through the pains of a break up.

left your black gloves on my table (constant reminders from physical items) left your dark horse in the stable (girl leaving behind dark memories) thinking of a way to get you to stay (he's deeply in love and is desperate) and i'll promise to fight the wind and wait for you (he'll do anything for her) i'm an owl with tired eyes (can't sleep) i'm a scarecrow in disguise (haven't been taking care of himself)

i often go out pacing when all i want to do is stay inside and look out the window with you (his mind is racing but still wants to hide inside from the pain yet hoping to be with her again)

there was a dead grouse in your arms (could mean another man, or flaw that she had) that was the moment that you lost your charm (thats when he noticed she was changing) an old bear paw sitting in a jar (a relationship that was once so strong as a live bear, ended up being dead and defeated) under a tree that never grew any leaves (relationship never amounted to anything) shake my arms, shake my head (he's telling someone to make him snap out of the depression) i fell asleep in your cobweb (feeling like he somehow got trapped/stuck/tricked into loving her when all she did was kill him-emotionally in the end - black widows entice then kill their mates) and i'm turning off all the lights tonight (lonely, dwells, temporarily ending his pain by going to sleep) saw you in a crowded bar, pale with hungry eyes (he saw how she wasnt interested in him anymore or it could be a dream of her going out to find another man)

Its such a lovely and true song..the whole song represented what I was going through when my last relationship ended.

But, ya know.. reversed sex roles.

All I can say is Seabear is stalking me. I'm obsessed with owls, and have often been referred to as the "owl girl." My recent fiance is the Scarecrow in our upcoming performance of Wizard of Oz. Now how can an already odd combination end up in the lyrics of one of my favorite bands? Coincidence?

Nah. More like a sign.
