Thumb Cinema Lyrics
Every commercial makes us die, a little bit
Every pop star makes us doubt, a little bit
Every new car makes us choke
On how little air we get and how we get it
The celebrity makes us filthy, a little bit
Every single ad makes us gag, a little bit
Every photograph makes us age
Each sound bite deafens, each sales event condemns
Talk about luck, you tell me, tell me what I got
You fucking give it to me, I won, I win a lot
You’re not happy, well, no one gives a shit
This is a game and you’re a part of it
Maybe it's time for you to quit
Because every new car you buy
It makes the poor baby Jesus cry
Nothing bought or sold is good for him
For you, for me, not good for anybody, alright
Give me your coins and I’ll spend them away, one by one
Give me the chips and I’ll play them, before the game has begun
No one is happy and no one gives a damn
No one can tell me who I am or make me pay them back
Come on, every new car you buy
It makes the poor baby Jesus cry
Nothing bought or sold is good for him
For you, for me, not good for anybody, alright
Guitar
Because every new car you buy
It makes the poor baby Jesus cry
Nothing bought or sold is good for him
For you, for me, not good for anybody
Every new car you buy
It makes the poor baby Jesus cry
Nothing bought or sold is good for him
For you, for me, not good for anybody
And every bar you pass
Filled with musicians who want to kick your ass
Nothing bought or sold is good for posterity
And is not played at this party
Every pop star makes us doubt, a little bit
Every new car makes us choke
On how little air we get and how we get it
Every single ad makes us gag, a little bit
Every photograph makes us age
Each sound bite deafens, each sales event condemns
You fucking give it to me, I won, I win a lot
You’re not happy, well, no one gives a shit
This is a game and you’re a part of it
Maybe it's time for you to quit
It makes the poor baby Jesus cry
Nothing bought or sold is good for him
For you, for me, not good for anybody, alright
Give me the chips and I’ll play them, before the game has begun
No one is happy and no one gives a damn
No one can tell me who I am or make me pay them back
It makes the poor baby Jesus cry
Nothing bought or sold is good for him
For you, for me, not good for anybody, alright
It makes the poor baby Jesus cry
Nothing bought or sold is good for him
For you, for me, not good for anybody
It makes the poor baby Jesus cry
Nothing bought or sold is good for him

No one has commented on this yet? This may be the best off of ATBI. I get a shiver every time they prolong 'cry' "Makes the boy baby jesus cry-hy."
I felt that the song was making a stab at Christianity. Most sects of Christianity reject materia/worldly possession, and yet you always see them in new cars, watching TV, following the lives of stars on TVs, etc. And then the line that all of those things make the boy baby Jesus cry...seems like Jack is trying to make a wake-up call to the Christians. Stop being such hypocrites.
That's just what I thought though.
They're not making a stab at Christianity. "Makes the poor baby Jesus cry" is an expression. lots of people use it.
it's about consumerism and looking up to false idols such as celebrities who only make us feel worse about ourselves and our own situations
Actually, he is in part talking about the hypocracy of many christians in the ways they conduct themselves in society. But I only figured that out from his pre-song shpeels when I saw WIFS last.
