Hey Now Lyrics

sky black and blue
blue turned to red
it's quiet in the streets now
it's screaming in your head

i ain't a fool
i've got my doubts
say it doesn't hurt
doesn't matter anyhow
anyhow

saying hey you're bleeding for nothing
it's hard to breathe when you're standing on your own
we'll kill ourself to find freedom
you'll kill yourself to find anything at all

so lock all the doors
and put your child to rest
it's quiet in the streets now
it's screaming in your head
we're passing the time
we're breaking apart
we're damned at the end
we're damned at the start
blame it on the roses
blame it on the red
running out of time
running out of breath

saying hey now you're bleeding for nothing
it's hard to breathe when you're standing on your own
we'll kill ourself to find freedom
you'll kill yourself to find anything

you say good-bye
every day and night
with writing on the walls
everybody's gonna need somebody
to take our troubles, and our worries, and our problems all away

'cause, hey you're just bleeding for nothing
it's hard to breathe when you're standing on your own
we'll kill ourself to find freedom
you'll kill yourself to find anything at all

hey now you're bleeding for nothing
it's hard to breathe when you're standing on your own
we'll kill ourself to find freedom
you'll kill yourself before
you'll kill yourself again

hey now, hey now, hey now
right now
hey now, hey now, hey now
right now
hey now, hey now, hey now
right now

hey now, hey now

I just heard this song and it hit home. It's the place some of us find ourselves in after years of running from pain. Perpetual pain does not draw people to you, hence the part about being alone. In the end, we are all faced with the choice to seek out the solution or let the pain be for nothing. Courage is hard to find when you're out of breath. And yet, when things get bad enough, we change because we can no longer bear the status quo. And hopefully we finally overcome that which was slowly destroying us (whether it be abuse or choices or both). But, hey- maybe it's about a break- up....but likely not.

Song Meaning

Really surprised people have noticed that it has the same meaning has Heart Shaped Gun with more radio friendly lyrics. It seems to be about being with a girl just so that you are not alone. He knows that its not going to work out "i ain't a fool, i've got my doubts" and "we're passing the time, we're breaking apart, we're damned at the end, we're damned at the start"

The rest of the song seems to be about making excuses "blame it on the roses, blame it on the red, running out of time, running out of breath" and "we'll kill ourself to find freedom, you'll kill yourself to find anything at all"

But in the end it just comes down to the fact that we all need someone and we'll do anything not to feel lonely, even if that means being with someone you don't want to be with. "with writing on the walls, everybody's gonna need somebody, to take our troubles, and our worries, and our problems all away"

Really amazing song. The original was better with a clearer message that was straight from the heart.

Also in Heart Shaped Gun he paints a darker picture where he is the one in control and in a way makes her do things like have sex even though she doesn't really want to.

I wouldn't have thought of that but I like it :)

I think this song is about the importance of having friends to help you through the tough stuff... "everybody's gonna need somebody to take our troubles, and our worries, and our problems all away."

this is a powerful song in lyrics and music however im not sure what it means. i think its talking about those of us who struggle inside our mind; looking for self-meaning. and often we find ourselves and who we really are in our pain and trials but is it worth it? the pain can change us to be better but too much pain can kill us. 'its hard to breathe when you're standing on your own. we'll kill ouraelves to find freedom. we'll kill ourselves to find anything at all..'

i like heart shaped gun better. it's darker and sexier.

in my opinion, this song is about a break-up. they each have their own struggles, but he wishes she was there with him to "take his worries away".

heart shaped gun was the best line :| totally depressed they re-did it. but this version is still good :]

lyrics are wrong. these are from the booklet:

sky black and blue, blue turn to red, it’s quiet in the streets now, but it’s screaming in your head

i ain’t a fool, but i’ve got my doubts, say it doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t matter anyhow, anyhow...

hey we’re just bleeding for nothing, it’s hard to breathe when you’re standing on your own, we’ll kill ourselves to find freedom, you’ll kill yourself to find anything at all...

so lock all the doors, and put your child to rest, there’s fire in the streets now, but it’s quiet in your head...

we’re passing the time, by breaking apart, we’re damned at the end, and we’re damned at the start,

blame it on the roses, blame it on the red, we’re running out of time, and i’m running out of breath,

hey now, we’re bleeding for nothing, it’s hard to breathe when you’re standing on your own, we’ll kill ourselves to find freedom, you’ll kill yourself to find anything,

we say goodbye, everyday and nite, we write it on the walls, well everybody’s gonna need somebody, to take our troubles and our worries and our problems all away,

hey now, hey now, hey now right now...

"it's hard to breathe when you're standing on your own"

so true...

this song is so meaningful ..i love it. i agree with zzyzxrd about that line. it's probably my favorite.

I think the song's got to do with strength in society and life hence "I ain't a fool; I've got my doubts" which probably means he isn't easily influenced by the things going on. He's got his doubts in this too-good-to-be-true world of advertisement. It also shows a softer side which represents vulnerability: "It's hard to breathe when you're standing on your own" Everyone's got to have a weak point. That's why we've got friends.
