Bang Bang Bang Bang Lyrics

Teacher says that I've been naughty
I must learn to concentrate
But the girls they pull my hair
And with the boys I can't relate
Daddy says I'm good for nothing
Mama says that it's from him
Manic sister thinks I'm cracking
Brother says it's in my genes

Don't you want to?
Don't you want to be the one?
Don't you want to?
Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang
Don't you want to?
Don't you want to hold the gun?
Don't you want to?
Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang

So we put on our eyeliner
And a bit of glitter dust
Life at night is always finer
Neon streets are full of lust
Teenage kids and Soho Dolls,
They make you want to cry
Like my superstar they fall
Some will be alright

Don't you want to?
Don't you want to be the one?
Don't you want to?
Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang
Don't you want to?
Don't you want to hold the gun?
Don't you want to?
Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang

Sunlight falls onto his eyes
But he don't stir or turn
Messages on the answerphone
But none will be returned
Monday morning, lousy morning
What a day to see
In the evening I will hear it
On the BBC

Don't you want to?
Don't you want to be the one?
Don't you want to?
Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang
Don't you want to?
Don't you want to hold the gun?
Don't you want to?
Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang

So, my mom thinks that she wants to shoot up a school because it says" teacher says ive been naughty says i should concentrate but the girls pull my hair and the boys i can relate" My mom said shes been through so much with her school and they've done so many things to her that she wants to shoot up the school and ofc "bang bang bang bang!" But my opinion is that she has family probles and is getting abused so she wants to kill her family. but now.. after i read the lyrics it sounds like she has a f-ed up life and gets r@ped and abused by her family and misterious bf that never responds. SO SHE OBVI. TOOK HIM OUT! and now.. her family is next... SO yea thats me and my mom's opinion.

My Opinion

I really like this song, it's kind of bittersweet and sexy at the same time. It makes me think of a disturbed young woman from a dysfunctional background who ends up committing gun crime with an accomplice ('Don't you want to be the one?'), perhaps on a member of her family... kind of like in the film Natural Born Killers... of course the 'bang bang' could just be in the sexual sense, but it just seems like there's something darker to it.

This song is about a highschool girl who is extremely unhappy with life - she can't concentrate/do well in her classes and doesn't get along with her classmates. Her family is dysfunctional - her father is abusive to her, her mother blames her daughter's behavior on her father (implying her parents don't love each other), her sister thinks she's going insane, and her brother thinks it's just bc their family is weird (first verse). The song explains how she tries to cope with clubbing underage (second verse), but it still doesn't satisfy her. The song also goes on with her intrusive thoughts on dealing with her problems by buying a gun to shoot up her school (Don't you want to?; Don't you want to hold the gun?), which she seems to give into during the final verse (Monday morning, lousy morning; What a day to see; In the evening I will hear it;On the BBC).

OMG that literally me and my moms opinion about this song.

@wowow I definitely agree

I think this song is about a girl living with a dysfunctional family; she is most Likely told off for not concentrating at school 'Teacher said that I've been naughty, I must learn to concentrate' she probably gets bullied at school 'but the girls they pull my hair' and probably a loner 'and whith the boys I can't relate' the dad is potentially abusive 'Daddy said I'm good for nothing', The mum and dad most likely fight a lot 'mummy said that it's from him' Her siblings probably think she is a lunatic 'Manic sister thinks I'm cracking, brother says it's in my Gene's (I will analyse the next paragraph soon)

My Interpretation

So, my opinions may be a lil' bit different than most, but this is what I've got: 1st verse: The verse is about a teen or tween who is often treated badly. She is bullied by the other kids, and even bullied by the teacher. Her parents are fighting and are probably either mentally or physically abusing her. Her sister, who she calls a manic, thinks that she's crazy and says it to her face, and her brother just says it's in their genes, making it seem like he's used to crazy behavior and it's normal to him. I imagined him smiling when he said this. Chorus: The chorus is probably one of the most dark aspects to this song, as it symbolizes the true thoughts of the girl, the darkness clinging to the thoughts she never says. Talking about "Bang Bang Bang Bang!", it sounds like a gunshot, and when she says "Don't you want to be the one?", it's almost like she's asking someone to join her in her dark deeds, and questioning why nobody realizes just how unforgiving and messed up the world is. Almost like, why are they all just trying to act normal? We're all wearing masks, yet we all know that we're a little bit crazy and sadistic. The repetitive "don't you want to?" makes me think that she's saying, if the world is so fcked up, I might as well be the most fcked up one. And then she picks up a gun and starts a fight. 2nd verse: At first I think it's talking about how everybody dresses up and puts on a mask before heading out, and then it talks about how they are in the clubs, and there are teenage kids there, maybe prostitutes, and it breaks her heart, but I think maybe it broke her mind more, and maybe she herself was even a prostitute. Then she talks about "my superstar". This line is probably the one that I was most confused about, but ultimately I think that it means her accomplice, since she seemed like she was asking someone to join her it the chorus, and I think they did. Then she says that they fall, but some will be alright, and it almost makes me think that she was going around and killing the people who had hurt them, and then freeing them from their pasts and traumas. 3rd verse: She talks about how "sunlight falls onto his eyes but he don't stir or turn" and how his calls will never be answered. While many people seem to think that he is a victim of her, I actually thought that the person mentioned was a teenager, and her accomplice, and that he had either committed suicide or betrayed her, leading to her killing him. That or suicide. I favor my suicide theory. I didn't think that it could be a victim that much since the word choice she used seemed unusually beautiful for the type of song that it is, maybe signaling that she cared about the person, and since she saw his body and knew she would hear about it on the news makes me think that either he was dead when she got there and she had looked down on his body and then left, or that he had betrayed her and she had killed him for it. Then she says "Monday morning, lousy morning, what a day to see" signaling that her day did not start well. I think that this last screw was seeing someone she cared about die, which made her totally lose it, and go on a killing rampage before ultimately either getting killed by someone trying to stop her or killing herself. I think that the scariest thing about this song was the blank tone in which it was sung, which did not match what was being talked about. So, there you have it, that's my opinion on the song! One of my favorite songs, and while it is dark, it is also motivating to me at the same time.

It kinda sounds like she's hooking. She says, "so we put on our eyeliner and a bit of glitter dust. neon streets are full of lust." It sounds like she was walking the streets, looking for a guy. Then they mention the morning and how the guy doesn't wake up and no one will be able to reach him on the phone and how the BBC (british news station) will be talking about it all afternoon.

I actually think the last verse is indicating that the guy's died. Why else would calls not be returned and then the news be talking about it?

curious what other people thought and i legit just made this account to comment because i am bored! i automatically thought the "bang bang bang bang" was in reference to sex... like, looking for some sort of approval in her miserable life. i really never imagined the killing or suicide route until i looked here and on genius, but it makes sense.
