If I could, take a trip, to outer space
She would be the one, I would see
When I get, to heavens gate
She would welcome me with her arms, open wide, and a smile
Will shadow me brighter than the sun
She hasn't had a fair chance, so I'll give her one
Let me tell you who she is, yeah

She's a fallen angel, sent from heaven up above
She's a fallen angel, waiting for me to love her, yeah
(Know that she's) She's a fallen angel, take your judgment off her
I know, that she's a fallen angel

You know, maybe I should
Help her mend, her broken wings
So she can fly again
But I don't, wanna lose everything that I've gained
It's turning me a selfish man (oh)
'Cause without her my heart just don't go, no more (no more)
I couldn't take the pain, from watching her fly away
So say that you'll stay
She's mine

She's a fallen angel, ooh sent from heaven up above
She's a fallen angel, waiting for me to love her, yeah
(Know that she's) She's a fallen angel, so take your judgment off her
I know, that she's a fallen angel

Don't you
Baby don't you (don't you worry) worry
I'm goin' help you (I'm goin' help you ) fly
(I'm goin' help you fly)
Just take me under your (take me under) wings
And we can reach the (we can reach the) sky
(We can reach the sky)
Baby don't you (don't you worry) worry
I'm goin' help you (I'm goin' help you ) fly
(I'm goin' help you fly)
Lil' mama, don't you (take me under) worry
You goin' reach the (we can reach the) sky
(We can reach the sky)
She's a

She's a fallen angel, hey hey sent from heaven up above, just for me
She's a fallen angel, waiting for me to wrap my heart around her now
(Know that she's) She's a fallen angel, take your judgment off her
I know, that she's a fallen angel

Baby, I know
I know that they done hurt you
But I'm here
Let's take it all away
So if you let me
You know what, just put your heart in my hands
And everything they say, I take it back
Like this

You don't mean nothing
I don't want ya
I don't need ya
Never loved ya
You're a nobody
And never make it
You're a mistake (oh)

Basically he's singing about this girl who he sees hurting from what other people have done to her. But he sees her as something amazing who has such great potential who just needs a little love to reach her greatness, like an angel. He knows he can help her, and she can help him, because together they can be greater than everything. You have to listen to the end of the song carefully because the first time I heard it, I thought he was saying he was going to take back everything he had said to her. But actually he is telling her to tell the people who hurt her to take it back, and tell them that they are nothing if all they do is say hurtful things to people to bring them down.

So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new. This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus. Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness". The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1. All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy. And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns) There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
