Flowers and Football Tops

Quite a poignant song. Written from a fathers perspective about a son who has been murdered. Reading the lyrics makes me think of Glasweigan schoolboy Kriss Donald murdered on his way home by an Asian gang in 2003 - the tribute to him was flowers and football tops (and scarfs).

im pretty sure i heard in an interview that it was about Kriss Donald.

He said in an interview that it's not about Kriss Donald , because he didn't wanna disrespect his memory. Just says it's about the situation in general.

Genrally in Glasgow when a young male dies (especialy murdered) people as a tribute leave Flowers and Football tops which is where the title comes from. I don't know if this phenomenon is unique to Glasgow or not but it certainly is not unique to the Kris Donald story.

As i seen in an interveiw James said this song is telling you to see things from a different perspective, and to put yourself in someone elses shoes. He said that if someone had just recieved £1,000,000 what would you do if you was them... If someone had you knew had lost someone close, what would you do... And if someone loves someone and is unsure about what to do, what would you do ?

the last part, when james allan sings "...much i loved you" just absolutely blows me away. i can't think of ever hearing a more emotionally charged and socially relevant song.

Insanely haunting tune right here. Especially the last 2 minutes. just fucking epic. Oh and thanks everyone for telling me what it meant. I now know hat the fuck they're talking about, its even more emotional, man what a depressing, dark subject. R.I.P. whoever they're talking about. That's just awful

SuperAlly, I think the song is actually from a mothers perspective. In an interview on Q radio James was saying that when he heard about this incident he couldn't help but think of his own mother and how she would feel in that kind of situation. Also, to me it just seems like more of a motherly figure speaking. But hey, I guess it could possibly be parents in general? lol.

wow...I didn't know that. thanks for posting it guys. this song is so sad.

in the end when he starts singing "You Are My Sunshine" and he changed the words to "I hope you NOTICED how much I LOVED you," I started to cry. I found it surprising that he sang that in this song, but very fitting.
