Buffalo Gals Lyrics

We're making habits out of vanities and gospel for the stalls.
The less you breathe the more you see of it all.
The lion's share is courting the teen one hand holds them back while the other is holding me.
We don't connect though we're both disconnected.

Oh, oh yeah we're so in love or else we're waving
unloaded guns in the air.
But, it's the same thing ain't it?

I'm only here to give you someone to leave when you get bored.
But, the first mistake's so good it'll only ensure another.

Oh, oh yeah you look so good or you're just saving
your flaws for the tight lipped lover.
But, it's the same thing ain't it?

We're lost. Profound. And we are bound by the secrets we keep from each other.

Pick up your heels or dig them in.
It doesn't matter when the void is ravenous.
It's too late for us now anyways.
It's too late for us now. This confession is a lost cause- we got dead before we arrived.

We're making habits out of vanities and gospels for the stalls.
So grab your old lady and dance into the breach. Yeah let's dance one more time into the breach.

Oh, oh yeah we're so in love or else we're waving unloaded guns in the air.
But, it's the same thing ain't it?

Divine light sparks from a severed wire.
So we hit the town like our parachutes failed.

We're lost. Profound. And we are bound by the same dichotomy.

"Buffalo Girls is a 1990 novel written by American author Larry McMurtry about Calamity Jane (Martha Jane Canary, 185?-1903). It is written in the novel prose style mixed with a series of letters from Calamity Jane to her daughter. In her letters, Calamity describes herself as being a drunken hellraiser but never an outlaw. Her letters also describe her larger-than-life cohorts. McMurtry's ability for characterization and storytelling shines as he depicts gritty events and relationships in the life of fur trappers, cowboys, soldiers, prostitutes, and Indians as the Wild West fades away changing their way of life. The characters struggle, and many fail, to adapt to the settling of the West. In an effort to adapt and relive the Wild West, many of the characters, along with Calamity Jane, resort to performing in Bill Cody's Wild West show. They exploit and are exploited by their frontier lifestyle, before being defeated by it in the end."

I think this song is a reflection of similarities, that he's in a relationship with someone who prides herself on living extravagantly. In the end he knows that her lifestyle will ruin her, but he's rather cynical and almost indifferent.

My 2 cents!

Well, I don't like that interpretation, but, I respect it. I think it's simpler, and the confusing lyrics throw you off. They are from Buffalo, NY. I am as well. I think it's about all the superficial girls girls that live here. He probably has known some bad ones as I have as well and been in bad relationships like in the song itself. It really reflects on all the girls here like that. Although many girls are not like that because we are like the midwest here, people just have more to them, unlike L.A. or NYC.

this songs sooooo kick ass! the majority of the songs chords are lil on the melodic, kinda happy, upbeat end. and then around 2.45 the chords are dropped an octave, or something, and it makes it so heavy sounding! i love it! i dunno if thats for sure what happens there lol but i know something does, and whatever it is i could listen to i t over, and over, and over just for that part lol

I'm pretty sure the song is about a guy and a girl who are together for no real reason other then to say they're together. a relationship with no attraction or love basically.
