Dead as History Lyrics

I made a big mistake with you tonight
The way our insides burned like moths flying to light

As the sun begins to set
I cannot find my way back
Walking with my eyes on fire
I never found the payback

We'll never feel like anything is wrong
The tragedy is not just our own sad song
Walls we have built and bridges we have burned
Deeper the hole the farther we feel from harm

I know the games we play
Give us a way
A way for us to see if we still feel alive

Time is always right behind us
Like the lamb under the gun
I'll hold on to this forever
That is never long enough

ok this is what it means to me:

I think its about him having a sort of romantic fling with a girl but he got too attached and ended up actually liking her. “I made a big mistake with you tonight” means he regrets getting with her because he got too attached “The way our insides burned like moths flying to light” he feels like they both sort of ran into it without thinking about the dangers.

“As the sun begins to set I cannot find my way back, Walking with my eyes on fire” he’s drunk? Gets lost on the way home cause he’s drunk? Dunno..really “I never found the payback” hmm really not sure about that one

“We'll never feel like anything is wrong” it feels right at the time (but not when he looks back later) “The tragedy is not just our own sad song” it doesn’t just happen to them it happens to everyone (which makes him feel less significant?) “Walls we have built and bridges we have burned” they’ve made some boundries and cut themselves off from reality? maybe theyre ignoring other peoples views and advice on their romance “Deeper the hole the farther we feel from harm” the more intoxicated they are the safer they feel and maybe the deeper they are in love the safer they feel from hurting their own feelings later on.

“I know the games we play Give us away, a way for us to see if we still feel alive” the games maybe being their flirting and other ‘activities’ ;) and it makes them feel like theyre still young and 'have a life' if you get me..

“Time is always right behind us” they rush into it not really knowing what theyre getting themselves into “Like the lamb under the gun” theyre getting old and soon to be useless maybe? “I'll hold on to this forever” now that he is attached and really likes her he will not let it go... “That is never long enough”…but he knows nothing will ever come of it :/

My Interpretation

i love how there is always "that guy" who tries to talk shit about bands when they explore different horizons of music. Miss Machine and Ire Works are fucking incredible albums. Calculating Infinity, Two For Flinching, Under the Running Boards, and Irony Is A Dead Scene are also just as fucking incredible. But you cannot expect any band to keep making the same exact music or else it will all just get boring and that's how bands fade out. Dillinger did nothing wrong with Miss Machine and Ire Works. So just like +}-136-{+ said, GET OVER IT.

rant\

actually no, this rant isn't over yet.

i can't see how people bitch about this song, Mouth of Ghosts, this album or Miss Machine...in Calculating Infinity...isn't Weekend Sex Change an ambient instrumental with a few parts that are hard?? just like this song?? get your shit straight and quit being so close-minded.

lol..this song is awesome. this album is awesome. end of story.

Dude. Shut up. Maybe they are influences? Ever thought of that? And tell me your favorite band doesn't sound like some other band sometimes. Oh wait, you can't!

Hey 'SaviorSalvation213', do us a favor of and take your disappointment and ignorance elsewhere. Yeah we all know you're heartbroken about how DEP has decided to pursue different artistic directions. Well, here's some advice for you and the other old school Dillinger "fans": GET OVER IT!

+-+-+-+ This song's an epic. Love the ambient introduction and ending.

God, i can't believe old school dillinger fans actually like this shit. I mean whatever to each thier own. but this and Miss machine compared to Infinity and The Running Board are so laughable. Now their ripping off Aphex Twin. This songs intro and Sick on Sunday are very similar to Aphex Twin song structures. Too bad so sad
