Outside Villanova Lyrics

And now I'm trying to decide if I feel dirty at all
cause it gets hard to tell
it's never just black and white she's got a mind of her own
and she uses it well
so she invites me over outside villanova
she's got some pull-out sofa that we won't hardly need
she is only drinking soda revving up that motor
got places we could go to but I still won't believe
that she's only gifted
when I'm standing by her side
she goes unassisted
and I start to relax as I cut her some slack

CHORUS
so get up I gotta go to work
facing all these people who now know I'm a jerk
and it's a set-up I gotta change my clothes
concealing all this evidence before everybody knows
what I've done and what I'm gonna do …again

and in the middle of the night I have a breakdown of sorts
with regret creeping in
she's gonna put up a fight and she will get her way
cause she loves sleeping in
so I need someone to side with when she begins confiding
and I cannot provide it cause I'm endlessly cold
she says she's so excited to play some groom and bride
with me but I'm undecided so I need to be told
that she's only sinking
when I'm sleeping by her side
with a change of thinking
I could pull us away even just for a day

chorus

she grows impatient to change my tune
she's geting older and legal soon
and I wasn't ready to start out and go upsetting
some girl that I'd be forgetting
by the time the cops came by that afternoon
and I try to decide as she pulls me aside

chorus

he know's that this girl thinks she's nothing without him..but he also wishes she'd figure that out. she thinks they've got some huge life ahead of them, but he's sorta just in it for the sex..but he doesn't know how to break it to her so he's gonna keep on goin with it just for kicks.

what does he mean by villanova, i know it means new farmhouse in latin, and I also know the college Villanova, but is he actually talking about the college in PA cause he is from DC and currently resides in NYC, and didnt go to Nova for college.

ChuckBeans he's definitely referring to the college. Even if he's from DC and lives in NYC now. That doesn't mean he couldn't be in PA at some point :-)

This song is about a guy who is messing around with an underage girl. She, being young and naive, thinks they're going to be together forever.... but he knows that he's really only in it for the sex. however he doesn't really know how to break it to her. So instead he just ignores the subject and he stays with her with a minor comfort of knowing that she will be legal soon. And in the last verse i think they got into a fight and she got angry and called the cops and reports him... probably for statutory rape.

khiac72, good to hear, but now I wonder why he was outside Villanova.

Also, I agree about him messing around with the underage girl, though I feel his problem is that, with her being young and immature, he has to keep acting as if he is still into her because if he upsets her, she can always just call the cops, so he wasn't willing to upset her, even though he is done with her.

When I first heard this song, I thought it was about a having a relationship with a woman who he knows is married... "And now I'm trying to decide if I feel dirty at all cause it gets hard to tell it's never just black and white she's got a mind of her own and she uses it well" it's her decision to cheat on her spouse, he's trying to decided if he feels badly about it...

"so get up I gotta go to work facing all these people who now know I'm a jerk and it's a set-up I gotta change my clothes concealing all this evidence before everybody knows what I've done and what I'm gonna do …again" maybe they work together.... everyone knows what's going on but they are trying to deny it...

"and in the middle of the night I have a breakdown of sorts with regret creeping in she's gonna put up a fight and she will get her way cause she loves sleeping in" again, he starts to regret what he is doing... but knows that she will eventually win out...

"so I need someone to side with when she begins confiding and I cannot provide it cause I'm endlessly cold she says she's so excited to play some groom and bride with me but I'm undecided so I need to be told" she tries to justify what she's doing by complaining to him about her spouse, but he could care less... she keeps telling him about how her divorce will be final soon and they can get married... but he's not sure, especially not after hearing her talk about her current man...

"she grows impatient to change my tune she's geting older and legal soon and I wasn't ready to start out and go upsetting some girl that I'd be forgetting by the time the cops came by that afternoon and I try to decide as she pulls me aside" she's starting to figure out that he might not commit, and she's not happy... she knows her divorce will be finalized soon, he's not ready to commit, but he doesn't want to upset her... the spouse finds out and goes crazy... tears up their house and stuff... he gets there and she pulls him aside, wants him to comfort her... and he's trying to decide (or going, oh sh!t, what do I do now?!?)

i think khiac72 is right, this song is about sleeping with a girl who is underage. she's probably 17, since he says she'll be legal soon. he sees their relationship as just sex, but she is in love with him and sometimes he feels bad about that ("in the middle of the night i have a breakdown of sorts, with regret creeping in"). he doesn't want to end things with her because he's afraid she'll report him to the cops out of spite.

Ok! I was wrong... lol. I talked to Eric after his show on Friday and he confirmed for me that, yes, it is about a "fictional account of someone having a relationship with a crazy underaged chick, and he can't get out of her web..."

Two words: Statutory rape.

The girl is only sixteen. Notice that two sentences use a word that is emphasized but makes no sense in the context, "gifted" and "sinking". Both rhyme with sixteen.

He's sleeping with a very naive (and pushy) girl who thinks they'll get married. The entire tone of the song is one of remorse, guilt, and hiding. It fits perfectly that he comes close to mentioning her age, but changes it at the last minute.

The mention of being legal, cops, feeling dirty, concealing the evidence, etc. all point to this.

Definitely underage girl... I think it is really clear as soon as he says "she's only drinking soda" and "she's got some pullout sofa." The only thing I don't get is why people at work think he is a jerk when he is concealing the evidence.
