Outside of This Car, the End of the World! Lyrics

While the world stood still around us
We drove, dreamless, lost and found again
Around towns, adrift and nameless,
Thrown in mad arrangements,
Bruised with orange light.

This could be the end of the world,
Smoke and curls and the screaming bells
When I awoke, I couldn't tell

In the kingdoms, in the bright blue heavens
See the faceless phantoms of the chosen seven
And your wild abandon, well you look like death
And will you call the seasons from the bright blue heavens

While the world stood still around us
We drove, dreamless, lost and found again
Around towns, adrift and nameless,
Thrown in mad arrangements,
Bruised with orange light.

In the kingdoms, in the bright blue heavens
See the faceless phantoms of the chosen seven
And your wild abandon, well you look like death
And will you call the seasons from the bright blue heavens

from the liner notes:

"i thought up this song when i was riding late at night through some old factory-town in Ohio. it was about 11:30, and the street was completely deserted. the streets were lit by these dull-orange streetlights, and the only buildings were abandoned storefronts and, inexplicably, these crumbling, concrete deals with rusted pipes sticking out every which way. it looked, needless to say, very apocalyptic to me. very alarming and beautiful."

This song is great, I love it. The beats are really nice.

I think it's about people together in a car, and nothing seems to exist outside of the car. They're not really going anywhere, just driving around aimlessly together.

The world outside of the car sounds slightly appocallyptic. "Bruised in orange light" sounds like the light coming from fires. "Smoke and curls" also brings to mind images of fire. "Screaming bells" might be sirens and alarms.

I don't know about the kingdom, in the bright blue heaven, it probly refers to the album's title, "The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations' Millenium General Assmembly."

This song sort of reminds me of something my friend said once. "Let's find a Jeep, pick up some friends, and drive to Canada and stay in a cabin for a week."
