This song IS absolutely gorgeous. This, to me, is about someone who wants to try and forget someone but really they can't and they are hoping that the other person is feeling the same. They feel crazy because they can't get the other person out of their head. They will pretend like they do not care unless the person tries to contact them. If that happens then he or she will not even show a trace of trying to get the other person off his or her mind. I love when the song says "I won't be dreaming of you dreaming of me anyway". So amazing!
i agree with the above, but i also sense he's saying something else. for instance, this part: "still not as strange and not as brave as when you turned away"-- maybe he's saying she was right to go.
and i get the impression with "i won't be the one when all is said and all is done, i won't be breathing like you breathe into the light of day," that he's not only saying he won't be the one for her, though she still will be for him... but also that he will never be that, in any case, for anyone.

I think this song is about that feeling you get when someone is moving on from a relationship you were both involved in, but youre still not. Outwardly, you might put on an ambivalent face and pretend you don't care. But if they wanted to come back to you, you know you would say yes.
