I agree, NonStopDance. She's been dependent for too long on this other person and is finally plucking up the courage to leave. It's nothing against this other person, she just wants to try standing on her own for once. That's how I've always interpreted it.

You are close to a friend/gf/bf/etcand have become reliant on them, you do know want to do anything without them, they give you confidence, and do not want to try something new if they will not be there to help you (catch you if/when you fall)

this song is about a girl whose been clinging to someone and is realizing it's time to be brave and stand on her own. she's going to mess up and she's going to fall but if she's brave she'll try again and stand up.
