I Absolutely love this song. Im not exactly sure what it means though. I guess it might be about someone who really likes the other person but they find it difficult to be around them without arguing. Maybe they feel that they're hurting the person too much so they would rather be alone.
I think the singer is referring to a situation where both parties like each other, but the guy has a history or a particular quality (his demons) about him that he fears will ultimately hurt the girl in the end.
