Seashell Lyrics

Roaming softly through yourself
You watched the words change for someone else
Form an echo in a seashell
A drunken thought or a long farewell

And then tonight I'll dive into your eyes
Will we feel like this for the rest of our lives?
Just a bird, tied to a stone
Do I really want the stone to be thrown?

Under the sea, black and deep:
Everything I give is everything that I keep
So shake the leaves off this tree

And in the dark blue light
I watched the bottle sail into the night
Carried you home, shaking like a leaf
You couldn't swim even though you live by the sea

A flock of owls know your name
Will you promise me to stay the same?

Buried my hands on the old cold sand
I looked up and saw all the sunlight on you again

Night after night, I followed you home
Light after light, I followed your footsteps on the snow

(Under the sea, black and deep)
(Under the sea, black and deep)
(Under the sea, black and deep)
(Under the sea, black and deep)
(Under the sea, black and deep)

Under the sea, black and deep
Everything I give is everything that I keep

Everything I give is everything that I keep
Everything I give is everything that I keep
Everything I give is everything that I keep
Everything I give is everything that I keep
Everything I give is everything that I keep
Everything I give is everything that I keep
Everything I give is everything that I keep
Everything I give is everything that I keep
Everything I give is everything that I keep
Everything I give is everything that I keep
Everything I give is everything that I keep

My favorite Seabear song. It's just perfect.

"Form an echo in a seashell/A drunken thought or a long farewell"

Beautiful.

I think it's "Will you promise me to stay the same?"

But not sure. This song is so wonderful, though.

Are we sure it's "Roaming softly through yourself"? I think "Humming softly to yourself" would make more sense, especially since the next words are "you watched the words change for someone else" .. the song you were singing has been the same for awhile and someone else is getting what you have been waiting for but you're still singing the same old song..? That's what I think it is. Who knows.

seabear's etheral sound and vague lyrics are to me much more existensial than about anything in particular. Throughout their songs the lyrics tie in owls, nature, and the sea with beautiful complicated emotions and thoughts. Then, as if coming out of a day dream they have an ephiphany which is in this song "everything I give is everything I keep". How true.

^indeed Sindri seems to greatly admire owls to point of obsession. almost every song in this album has an owl reference in the lyrics and he's even got an owl tattoo. go figure, the man loves them big eyed predators.

hey nena4Christ I don't mind the triple post. I see your point there, but you see, if you listen carefully you can distinctively hear how he slightly rolls the "r" in "roaming." remember he's icelandic and they tend to do this when speaking in english. besides "roaming" fits in pretty well as it also means "to wander about without a purpose."

My Interpretation

i get the sense this song has to do with a relationship. the narrator is so far into a relationship, they're starting to wonder what the future's going to look like.

Roaming softly through yourself You watched the words change for someone else Form an echo in a seashell A drunken thought or a long farewell

in this stanza, they're just starting to think about the thought of breaking up with the person they've been dating for awhile. they're considering how the relationship has changed them, how they've molded to fit the shape of the other person in the relationship.

And then tonight I'll dive into your eyes Will we feel like this for the rest of our lives? Just a bird, tied to a stone Do I really want the stone to be thrown?

they act totally committed to the other person, but also wonders at the back of their minds if they're destined to be together forever. they feel like they're trapped in the relationship (a bird meant to be free)
