A Boy I Never Knew Lyrics
To have his arms around me, to sense his perfect trust
I’d give all I ever had…all I ever had…
I’d love to see him dream, I’d love to watch him sleep
To have his arms around me,
Held his arms in mine, sense his perfect trust
I’d give all I ever had for a moment of his love
He’s my heart and my soul
He’s my blood and my bones
He’s my prayers and my hope
My wishes and dreams
Seems so long ago, so long ago…
I’d love to watch him dream, love to see him sleep
To have his arms around me, feel him as he breathes
Hold his hands in mine, sense his perfect trust
I’d give all I ever had for a moment of his love
He’s my heart and my soul
He’s my blood and my bones
He’s my prayers and my hopes
My wishes and dreams
Seems so long ago…
He’s my blood and my bones
He’s my heart and my soul
He’s my prayers and my hopes
My wishes and dreams
A boy I never knew
And the man I’ll never know
I’ll never know, I'll never know…
To have his arms around me, sense his perfect trust
I’d give all I ever had…
I’d give all I ever had…all I ever had…
To have his arms around me,
Held his arms in mine, sense his perfect trust
I’d give all I ever had for a moment of his love
He’s my blood and my bones
He’s my prayers and my hope
My wishes and dreams
Seems so long ago, so long ago…

Hold his hands in mine, sense his perfect trust
I’d give all I ever had for a moment of his love
He’s my blood and my bones
He’s my prayers and my hopes
My wishes and dreams
Seems so long ago…
He’s my heart and my soul
He’s my prayers and my hopes
My wishes and dreams
And the man I’ll never know
I’ll never know, I'll never know…
I’d give all I ever had…

this song's sooooo amazin
y am i 2 believe this songs talks about a boy never born? a child maybe? ah, don't know
I agree. I think it's about a miscarriage. Though I don't know why Robert and Mary never had kids, I guess this could be one of the reasons.. Either way, it ain't my business. All I know is this song is heartbreaking.
robert said it's about the son he never had.. they didn't have kids cuz they didn't want 2.. that's what robert has said.. & now he regrets.. but it's 2 late i guess.. anyway, reely depressin song
What album is this from? The lyrics are so beautiful!
@deathbycookies It was originally recorded for the 2004 self-titled album. Robert wasn’t happy with the recording and so pulled it from the album. The 2004 version became unofficially available through YouTube. In 2008 the band started playing the song live as they wanted to include it on the 4:13 Dream album. Why it wasn’t included on that album is unclear.

Well, it wouldn't be too late for him to have kids, but I can't imagine he'd want them with anyone other than Mary. deathbycookies: It's going to be on their new album which will (hopefully) be out next year. April/May-ish.
I too have heard about this song being about Robert's regret or sadness over not having a son, but the question above this comment box is "what does this song mean to you?"
And to me, from the first time I heard it, it remains a heartbreaking tale of unrequited love for...a friend, maybe? Interpreting the lyrics in this way, whilst at a Cure concert and hearing the song live, whilst next to such a friend was a powerful experience.
I cannot wait for the new album.
points up What this means to me.....I lost my little brother right before his 8th birthday and, it never ceases, at the line, "The man I'll never know" I sob uncontrollably. This has been the only song that's ever helped me deal with missing him, and I hear that it will NOT be on 4:13 Dream. If that's the case, I will be very upset. This is an amazing song and proof that the blood of Disintegration still courses through Robert's veins. If it doesn't get released, this song will still remain one of the best things the band has done post 2000, if not the best, in my opinion

This song will probably be on the next album after 4:13 Dream. Supposedly it will be darker than Dream.
He expected a boy?? Maybe it is about miscarriage or adoption seeing how it's gender specific!
