Grounds For Divorce Lyrics

I heard he dabbled into witchcraft
I heard occult
Oh, they're pretty much the same

I guess he was adopted
or raised by wolves
That's ridiculous to say

I heard he boiled over
cursed the town
had the touch
so nothing grew

I heard that too
It's true

(That's a lie!)

I heard he spoke in tongues
You're crazy
I heard he was a refugee

I heard he was a monster
a scary ghost
Oh you know there's no such thing

I heard he boiled over
cursed the town
had the touch
so nothing grew

I heard that too
It's true

(That's a lie!)

We're left with some stories and dirt
But this is the part that will hurt

And nobody learned
And now nothing grows here

Always a shy unremarkable man
Then one day he'd had it
And threw up his hands

He filled up his lungs
And he pulled at his hair
And he curled up his lips
And he bellowed:
"You'll never know!
How sorry you'll be!"

I heard he dabbled into witchcraft
I heard occult
Oh, they're pretty much the same

I guess he was adopted
or raised by wolves
That's ridiculous to say

I heard he boiled over
cursed the town
had the touch
so nothing grew

I heard that too
It's true

(That's a lie!)

We're left with some stories and dirt
But this is the part that will hurt

Nobody learns
Now nothing grows

Always a shy unremarkable man
Then one day he'd had it
And threw up his hands

He filled up his lungs
And he pulled out his hair
And he curled up his lips
And he bellowed:
"You'll never know!
How sorry you'll be!"

The looks on their faces
You'd swear they were dead
It finally sunk into their bones
what he said:

"The seed will be bitter!
The harvest will crumble!
Your fields will lay fallow for years
and nothing will grow!"

People will speak of him
once in a while
As legend would have it
You'll hear it for miles

He'll curse up a blue streak
Add lead to the earth
And stink like all manner of things

And nothing will grow.

I'm like 85% confident of these lyrics. They're WAY closer than the ones posted all over the net on the big lyrics sites. The last 8 lines or so are pretty hard to make out. And the "remarkable man" line might not be right.

The lyrics appear to be right to me, thanks for posting them!

I think this song is pretty straight forward in it's meaning and I believe it is meant to be a story in general, whether it is a metaphor for something else is up to the reader as it could have several meanings.

Big business rocks, I saw them live and they rocked! Especially 'Shields'.

I'm sure Coady sings 'Prepare to die' instead of what you wrote ('That's a lie')

I saw them live a few weeks ago, and it looked more closer to that.

It's definitely "That's a lie", at least on the album. If he feels like singing it different live, then it's his song.

I agree with all of the lyrics except, as you said "always a sign of remarkable man". I'm pretty sure it's "always a shy, unremarkable man". Otherwise, pretty damn good.

I agree with Captain Famous. Also, its "Your stables will burn, And your harvest will crumble, Your fields will lay fallow for years"

This album is about mental illness, superstition, death, savagery, hardship and other such rottenness that one faced in the old west.

Oh it's a shame, a remarkable man; That one day he'd had it, and threw up his hands...

... People will speak every once in a while...

The 2nd line is "I heard a cult" The rest is close but its still off

i'm pretty sure it's 'occult' not 'a cult' due to the following line - they're pretty much the same. i think 'we're left with some stories inert' might be 'stories and dirt' ?

it's definitely 'always a shy unremarkable man' and 'people will speak of him once in a while'. also sounds more like 'the seed will be bitter' than 'your stables will burn' but i'm not sure. never been sure what coady's part is - 'that's a lie' seems to fit, i used to think it was 'back to life' which is clearly wrong but 'prepare to die' also sounds good....
