I Used to Have a Heart Lyrics
I used to have a heart
Worth a billion bucks
Now it's shitty, shoddy cheap
Sell it in my sleep for the fakes to eat
While they kiss my ass and tell me what I need:
Sex fiends with a vacant dream, a tattoo of a soul
And the words you said ringing in my head
Wonder where the love they stole is hiding
All I want to do is be mended by you
I don't want to be confused
I just want to find you
All I want to kill is that which keeps me ill
Underwhelmed and unfulfilled
They're in denial of the knowledge that they're living in a lame excuse
They're in denial of the fat they're fed,
It's like they're gorging on the truth
It was not alright with me
the love I lack, I need I want you back
It's not alright with me
The circle torn apart
I used to have a heart
I used to have a heart
I used to know a girl with the deepest trust that a man could ever know
I broke her neck with the lack of respect that I learned as an embryo on the west coast
Where the dead paint hollywood red
The facade is well-fed with the blood of the capulets
Spread like jelly on bread marking the doors of the first-born's weaned from birth on meds
All I want to say is this could be okay
I don't want to be a slave
I just want to spend my days
Wandering through the haze
Your voice to lead the way
I can finally go and say
I was in denial of the knowledge that I was living in an empty lie
I was in denial of what you are to me: my heart, my love, my guide
It's not alright with me
The love I lack
I need, I want you back
It's not alright with me
The circle torn apart
I used to have a heart
There you are in front of me
Luminescent as you used to be
Just sing the saddest song for me
Revive me
Revive me

Man, the best song on the album can't get a comment..
Anyway, I'm still just trying to listen to the 27 songs from a musical standpoint, so I've haven't really gotten to the meanings yet.
dude i agree with paraless this was by far my favorite song on the album
these lyrics are amazing and the music is mind blowing
i really really dont like this song
obvious from the title she lost trust for him after he did something, maybe drinking with his friends while saying he went somewhere?
do i hear aaron from underoath and the almost in the back up vocals saying "it's not alright with me"
to gingerr
you prolly do i think i remember seeing him on the guest artist list its listed in the back of the booklet and on wikipedia
i have to agree with paraless, this is the best song on the new album, or at least one of them. The guitar work along with the lyrics/vocals are awesome. As far as the meaning, he obviously had a relationship with somebody he cared very much about. However, because of his condition, he would often place certain objectives, such as getting fucked up and such over her, which showed ne respect for her. She left him, and though he wnats her back and wants try again, he understands it was his fault. I can relate...
the guitar at the end of this and the distortion at the end of baby girl give me a sense of respect towards max as a guitarist (unless im mistaken, he does play guitar in the studio) the album musically is a big step from what was on IARB, but lyrically about equal. this band is the most exciting to listen to group out there IMO

i think he's saying he's turned callous and hollow in a sense. he 'used to have a heart', meaning he used to care about her and treat her properly and he's suddenly realized how much he's changed and how much he hurts her now and he doesn't want to continue that so he's telling her to 'revive' him, so they can go back to before and he can treat her the way he should again.
i think he was just a dumb guy who treated her wrong and now that they're kaputz he has realised, "shit, I'm a dick and when she left me she took my heart with her" so naturally he wants both back. So here we have this song acting as the appology. He's explaining that his life is a mess that he knows he's treated her bad and that he is sorry, so if she would only get back with him, she (at least in his opinion) would somehow have the power to turn this all around. all in all, i believe the statement, "This song is about rebirth aided by love" sums it up nicely
