I think this song is from the perspective of a male prostitute. favorite song off the new album :D as far as meaning... i'm not completely sure but i think that wanting to get hurt has something to do with it.

This song is a look at people who use sex to remedy self esteem issues. The pun on the word "lie" is saying that while they're having sex they're fooling themselves.

i think it's pretty clear that this song is about a homosexual relationship (one night stand?). "this is not the way we procreate" and "when you burn in hell" all references to judeo-christian intolerance of homosexuality. also, the voice that says "i'm up for it if you are handsome" is clearly a man.

i agree with coldvoltage. when the guy says, "Let's keep that morningstar burning." the moringstar is actually not a star at all, it's the planet Venus. and in christian mythology, Lucifer is reffered to as the morning star. so forbidden homosexual love= the devil.

i'm gonna have to agree with jayemel, although not neccessarily to remedy self esteem issues, maybe to ignore everything else that's going on: "We scowl and screw away the pain". i doubt the song has anything to do with homosexuality. it talks about the cross and burning in hell for your screw ups. maybe instead of being gay, promiscuous sex? sex before marriage? they're sins. plus, max bemis just isn't gay, hah.

Reading the homosexual one night stand interpritation of this song I'm quite certian that it's much more acurate than my own, but here it is.

my take is a teen pregnancy interpretation, and deciding to abort it.

the first verse is about the sex. You're young, you're not in love, and this is not sex to procreate. and ends with, "Swollen suffering fantasy of hate" or the realisation that yes, you're pregnant.

The second verse discusses the choice to have an abortion. because you know you're not ready to have a child but deep down you can't help but feel guilt, fell like a sinner.

The third verse has sort of the same tone, only it's almost coming from the prespective of the unbornchild, the "ever glowing light"

Finally in between these verses you have your party boy and pretty face who put no thought into their actions and just did what they did.

Just for the record: Just because a band makes a song with a gay theme, it doesn't mean they're gay. Also, in case I ended up sounding rude, I have nothing against Christianity, religion, LGBTQ, or anything of that sort. \o/ Now that I've gotten that out of the way...

Okay, this song confuses me. I'll think I have a good explanation, but then I look over the lyrics again and something contradicts what I'd come up with. :< But, ignoring a few lines that don't fit it, I think it has to do with a guy from a very religious, conservative background finding himself sexually attracted to another man. That obviously causes moral conflict for him, but he ends up rejecting religion/accepting that he's going to hell and gets into a kinda messed up sexual relationship with the guy he's attracted to.
