Q&A
The Horse Lyrics
I am just waiting in a room.
I only sleep but half the time.
I am berating onlookers now,
silently greeting pleasant eyes.
Hello.
I am just waiting in a room.
My mind will slip from time to time.
I am relaying from the roof now,
messages bouncing from the wires.
It's another day of fucking up a race horse.
Water mains will rinse off the mud.
Burn away the mark of our maker now
while we're alive.
I am just waiting in a room.
My body lets the tale unwind.
It tells how money turns the world round.
This body welcomed its demise.
It's another day of fucking up a race horse.
Water mains will rinse off the mud.
Burn away the image, pull the blinders down.
And with hope a sound will mean the end.
Our monikers are phrases uttered.
He was wakes the others.
His family is dead.
They follow close to our tail
How we gonna save ourselves?
They follow close to our tail
How we gonna save ourselves?
How we gonna save ourselves?
Lasix. Selenium. Thrush. Rain rot. Premarin.
Dragged by the nose, trotted out for the motorists.
Foal scours. Paralysis. Puncture site abscesses.
Sodium pentobarbitol. Euphoriants.
Glutamine. Zithromax. Cialis. Celebrex.
No one is safe 'til my horse wins again.
The bastard strangle of
this hateful world
is a captive bolt gun.
We're disposable.
Why are we so angry?
Why are we so bored?
Why are we so angry?
We can't say no.
Not anymore.
Why are we so angry?
Why are we so bored?
Why are we so angry?
We can't say no.
Not anymore.
'Til my horse wins again.

Comment from Trevor Reilly:
"Well, The Horse is the story of a horse, from the horse's perspective. It is also about a man stricken with the weakness of addiction. That doesn't make him shitty, that makes him a victim. The "shitty people" stuff only occupies a few lines of the song, after wakes the others and his family are dead. I wanted to write a story about how the horse and the man are the same; they have the same strangleholds on their lives, the same types of dependencies.
But more pertinently, i just wanted to write a song about a horse. And i did."
Very good stuff. This man could write a song about taking a dump and it'd be beautiful.
god DAMN these guys are ridiculously fucking good.
Now I read the comment from Trevor, I get where all those chemicals come from.
Lasix is a loop diuretic used in the treatment of congestive heart failure and edema. It has also been used to prevent thoroughbred and standardbred race horses from bleeding through the nose during races. Selenium is necessary for both horses and humans but if used in excess very toxic Thrush, rain rot, puncture site abscesses and foal scours are typical horse diseases Premarin is a group of drugs that contains mainly estrogens (female sex hormone) and is isolated from mare's urine Sodium pentabarbital (that is the correct spelling, I study chemistry..., it's also wrong in the cd booklet) is one of the barbitals and a heavy anaesthetic. It is especially used on horses and has been used for physician-assisted suicide. Glutamine is one of the 20 human amino acids and has a function in protein synthesis and as brain fuel (horse power?) Zithromax is used to treat certain bacterial infections, most often those causing middle ear infections, tonsillitis, throat infections, laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia and sinusitis (wikipedia) Cialis is the third most used drug against impotence, especially for its long lasting effect. It is (illegally) given to race horses to make them go faster, hence the name horse viagra. *Celebrex is used in the treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, acute pain, painful menstruation and menstrual symptoms (wikipedia)
Long comment, sorry about that.. Just one question left, could someone tell me what "He was wakes the others" means? English is not my native lanuage and I just can't seem to understand that sentence.
"He was wakes the others" isn't technically a correct English sentence... It's probably meant as in "He was. [He] wakes the others".
Thanks to Ba5 for finding out the chemicals - it's nice to see that it runs from horse --> human
And lyric correction: "they follow too close to our tail" should be: "they followed a course towards hell" source: Trevor on the old message board
