It seems to me that this song is about a fictitious or ideal girl that he has in his mind. I see it to be similar to Vermillion pt. 2 by Slipknot. "Last time I made you up," implies the imagination part. "You looked so bright, I was about to believe in angles" he has done it numerous times and the image keeps getting brighter. The angel part seems like he is talking about a girl. The part about lucid dreams shows that he also dreams about her. He is looking for her, perhaps actually searching in the real world for a girl like this vision, or maybe he is seeking a mental place where he can actually hold on to the vision. Later he asked, if it is only a dream does that mean that he will have to wake up? Could he actually find someone like this imaginary girl, or does he need to just give up and settle for someone who is not perfect.

It seems like the first time instead of "But if this is only a dream. I can just" Should be "But if this is only a dream. Til it comes"
