Well they're using a film to symbolise how the relationshp is going. The verses and the chorus contrast against each other..as if to say 'why can't life be like the movies?' he doesnt seem to understand why the girl cant love him back/anymore. and its a bit like he's saying "well in movies, its all dandy" well more like "why cant life be like the movies?" i suppose...
This was what the lyrics used to be for "Star Girl". The band changed them though because they felt that the song was too same-old samey. I suppose they're right - After all, on one hand, we've got "oh look, they're having troubles with a girl again" and on the other, we've got "I slept with an alien!!" Don't know about you, but I'd pick the alien!!
I agree with Lids though - it does seem to be that they're compairing their lives to movies, but then maybe they're watching a film or something and thinking "Ha, real life is NOTHING like that". Movies make out like the credits roll and that's it - everything's all fine and dandy and it always will be forever more - lights camera action and its goodnight - but we know it's not.
