Wolves In The Garden Lyrics
You say you're going to
The garden, and I should come and play
I feel like I should tell you there,
There were wolves there yesterday
We walked and I said nothing
I didn't want to hurt the mood
I know we can't outrun them
But the flowers smell so good
Those wolves in the garden
Wolves in the garden...
Wolves in the garden...
Ahhhhh
It's a sunny morning
They gave no warning
Those wolves, those wolves
In the garden
I know I could have saved us
But we'd have never known this day
If this is where we had to go
Well then I'm glad we went this way
All that's left to see is
What kind of flowers we'll become
I'm sure we'll be the kind
That bring children out into the sun
Those wolves in the garden
Wolves in the garden...
Wolves in the garden...
Wolves in the garden...
It's a rage storm forming
It gave no warning
Those wolves, those wolves
In the garden
Wolves in the garden...
Wolves in the garden
In the garden...
Wolves in the garden...
Wolves in the garden...
Wolves in the garden...
Wolves in the garden...
Wolves in the garden...
Wolves in the garden...
Wolves in the garden...
In the garden...
Wolves in the garden...
The garden, and I should come and play
I feel like I should tell you there,
There were wolves there yesterday
I didn't want to hurt the mood
I know we can't outrun them
But the flowers smell so good
Wolves in the garden...
Wolves in the garden...

This to me sounds like a song about knowing the end is near, but making the best of it anyway. "If this is where we had to go Well then I'm glad we went this way" He knows that in the end, things just won't work out. "All that's left to see is What kind of flowers we'll become" basically implies that death is nearing, and their bodies will decay and feed the soil, and flowers will grow on their grave, basically. He seems to know he's gonna die, and maybe his lover also, but puts that in the back of his mind and focuses on the moment. Maybe his love doesn't know they're doomed, and he doesn't tell her so she can truly be happy in their last moments.
If that makes sense.
god this song is so beautiful. to me it's like a relationship - any type - where one person can clearly see something bad coming on or that it's just not gonna work out. something lingering with the ability to cause damage to a beautiful thing (like a wolf in a garden anyone?) but he/she just wants the feeling to last as long as possible, wondering what will become of them after all is said and done.
The guy's behavior is the opposite of what my own is. I'll destroy the flow/emotion of a conversation to prevent future problems. I imagine it's quite frustrating to be my friend.
Anyways, I kind of envy this guy for being able to appreciate the present instead of fine-tuning the future. I think I'm too controlling/manipulative/honest for that.
Beautiful song. This whole CD is pretty good, hope this band gets more publicity. I heard the song "I hope I become a ghost" on the movie "World's Greatest Dad", and got addicted to the band from there.
