Half-remembered
Drunken nights
The sun stayed up like
A diamond in the sky
Owl girl - where have you been?
I know I'm bored
and my blood is pretty thin
But some nights I swear
There was magic in the air:
A fox bites me apart from loneliness
Wolves in the basement
An owl in my head
Your head's in headlock
Are you in trouble again?
Now you've lost another friend
You felt something
But you never feel enough
Wind that'll break men
You're the one that freaking lost
Drunken nights
The sun stayed up like
A diamond in the sky
I know I'm bored
and my blood is pretty thin
But some nights I swear
There was magic in the air:
Wolves in the basement
An owl in my head
Are you in trouble again?
Now you've lost another friend
But you never feel enough
Wind that'll break men
You're the one that freaking lost

this is really wrong but the only correction i can make for certain is that the last line is "you're the one i'm thinking of"
ok I see what you mean. I've corrected the last two lines.
You felt something But you never feel enough When I break men You're the one that I'm thinking of
Woooooo....
=(
i'm 99% sure it's "Wolf's in the basement" also, it's "Owl Girl, where have you been"
Sindri mentions owls and even more specifically, the "Owl Girl," in a lot of their songs. Plus, "I woke up" wouldn't work because if you listen closely, there is no "P" sound at the end of that word, and you can faintly hear the "L" sound in its place.
owl girl, where have you been
fox bite me apart from loneliness wolves in the basement owls in my head
what does the "break men" line mean?
Hmm, the only explanation I can think of for the 'break men' line is that he's gay, but he really has feelings for a girl. I do not know.
But this really is a beautiful song. I like the atmosphere the harmonica adds, and it's amazing how there's this sort of harmony when he says 'head' and 'of' that stretches out the word with (I think) a glottal stop. Well, whatever it is, I love it.
I don't think it's "break men." I'm pretty sure it's "break out."
^well I strongly disagree it doesn't sound like "out". perhaps he means, that when he gets drunk because his had a bad argument with his girl and he then gets into fights with random guys at the bar. because he wouldn't dare hit his girl. in other words he's projecting his anger against her somewhere else.
but I must admit it could possibly be something else. the lines at the end are hard to hear.
as for the suggestions by everybody else good job. thanks for your inputs. :)
oh and Joshcuba he uses that "Owl girl" expression in "I sing I swim" as well.
this is how I hear it:
Half-remembered Drunken nights The sun stayed up like a diamond in the sky
I woke up - where have you been? I know I'm bored and my blood is pretty thin But some nights I swear There was magic in the air:
A fox invites me to part from loneliness Wolfes seem to create scent An owl in my head
Your head's in headlock Are you in trouble again? Now you've lost another friend
You felt something But you're never feeling loved Wind that'll break men You're the one that freaking lost
I love this song. It is so peaceful. Like "I sing, I swim". Anyway, you are right about the lyrics. I used to think It was "when I break down - you're the one I'm thinking of" but then I looked at another lyric site and they had it as "wind that'll break men - you're the one that freaking lost".

That last line sounds like "break down", even more so if you listen to live versions on youtube.
