amazingly beautiful song. needtobreathe is one of a very few who can write songs this beautiful. they are an awesome band.. that being said, i think this song is about one planning out his life.
one reason this song is so amazing to me is because i can relate to it so well. so often i find myself saying (to myself) that i am going to be bigger than just another life, i am going to make the world a better place, but sometimes as i look at this plan i think " what if i have planned this wrong, what if i'm not supposed to be that, what if i have wasted my life trying to be something i cant. if so, what now? have a thrown away my life? seldom second chances come along...
i could go on about this more, because i think it has a bit of something to do with another person, maybe a girl or a friend, but ill leave that to someone else, i just wanted to put my idea in there.

This song is bittersweet and nostalgic. I think it's about a time when everything was going right, when there was hope about something great that was about to happen–but then you mess up. The past is beautiful and colorful, but leading into the present, it all fades. The green behind us was when things were growing, vibrant, and thriving. The bright and hopeful stars aren't there anymore. They faded.
Sounds like this song can be applied to many situations–maybe the hope of a good change in life–a new job, a relationship, even parents trying to have children or trying to adopt. Sometimes things look so hopeful, but then something happens or we mess up, and the future that once looked to bright from here... fades. All we want is the hope to come back. But maybe, the pain of waiting and of stolen dreams will make us stronger.
The lyrics and the tune seem to mourn the golden days, yet try to bring closure by acknowledging that "seldom second chances come along."
