Washed by the Water Lyrics
Daddy was a preacher
She was his wife
Just tryin to make the world a little better
You know, shine a light
People started talking
Trying to hear their own voice
Those people tried to accuse my father
Said he made the wrong choice
Though it might be painful
You know that time will always tell
Those people have long since gone
My father never failed
Even when the rain falls
Even when the flood starts rising
Even when the storm comes
I am washed by the water
Even if the Earth crumbles under my feet
Even if the ones I love turn around and crucify me
I won’t never ever let you down
I won’t fall
I won’t fall
I won’t fall as long as you’re around me
Even when the rain falls
Even when the flood starts rising
Even when the storm comes
I am washed by the water
She was his wife
Just tryin to make the world a little better
You know, shine a light
People started talking
Trying to hear their own voice
Those people tried to accuse my father
Said he made the wrong choice
Though it might be painful
You know that time will always tell
Those people have long since gone
My father never failed
Even when the flood starts rising
Even when the storm comes
I am washed by the water
Even if the ones I love turn around and crucify me
I won’t never ever let you down
I won’t fall
I won’t fall
I won’t fall as long as you’re around me
Even when the flood starts rising
Even when the storm comes
I am washed by the water

Just a hunch, but I think the "father" that he's talking about in the first paragraph is God. I agree, the Church is his "wife". God comes to the world in the form of Jesus, Jesus chooses to make Himself a sacrifice for all of mankind. Many people accuse Jesus of making the wrong choice, they say He should have fought them in this world. But as the song says, "Those people have long since gone, My father never failed."
Beautiful song.
as I listened to this song for the first time, I felt a chill over my body. This song has a very powerful message and it's been a long time ago since the last time I was moved by a song.
It's a really great song.
i read that this song is about his dad being wrongly accused of something by the church and how he got throught it. anyway really awesome song, makes me think of how baptism symbolizes Jesus washing away our sins.
I am not sure about the first paragraph, but I think this song...to me..is about how God can wash out all your dirt. No matter what happens he is always there to forgive you
I'm guessing the first paragraph is about his dad being a preacher. The church was his wife. And apparently he had people telling him he made the wrong choice by becoming a preacher. He could have done this or that, but he decided to be a preacher. These people probably didn't believe in God. That's what I get from it.
With Jesus nothin can harm him he is just washed by the water
I know for fact Bo & Bear Rinehart wrote this about their father. I've seen them live 3x's and each time before they did this song they have said it was about their dad.
well this song is about his life. First paragraph is about his family. this song talk about how the world is changing and how his dad stayed faithful to Christ. Also, it simply is saying when things go bad he won't let go of Christ.
I love love love the chorus of this song!
Much like the weather, life is filled with so many uncertainties: Will I succeed/fail? What will happen next year? What will happen tomorrow? Will I be okay?
Much like we cannot control the wind patterns or precipitation, we cannot control what happens in our lives.
The only constant that we can really hold on to is the fact that we have Jesus and our salvation. Anything can happen to us, but absolutely nothing can take that from us.
This should bring us so much comfort! We cannot be plucked from the hand of God.
