Streets of Gold Lyrics

I want you to know
I’m leaving to let you go
One day we’ll walk upon
Streets of gold

I don’t remember seeing fear in your eyes
When you were fading
The day we said our goodbyes
It’s easy to say that there’s a reason for this
Much harder to know
That what we say is true

Everything we hold could someday slip away

I want you to know
I’m leaving to let you go
And someday we’ll walk upon
The streets of gold

Running through your veins was a slow-ticking clock
Counting down the days
And no one could make it stop
All of the time that it takes to figure it out
Could be the moments
That you can’t live without

Everything we hold could someday slip away

I want you to know
I’m leaving to let you go
And someday we’ll walk upon
The streets of gold

The trouble with love is that it comes to an end
I’ve got a feeling I’m gonna find you again
Just in a place where love can’t die

I want you to know
I’m leaving to let you go
And someday we’ll walk upon
The streets of gold

The thing about this song is that it's easy to tell from the lyrics here that it's about losing somebody you love, but when you actually listen to the music it's anything but melancholy and depressing.

I think the contrast communicates the message of the song: hope.

But anyways. I just thought this song deserved a comment because it's my favorite off the second album.

This song holds a lot of hope for anyone who's ever lost someone dear to them… which is most of us.

This song is basicly telling that one day we will be walking on the streets of gold. If you have had a rough life here and you are a christian it will be so much better in heaven with Jesus.

The way I understand the song is that when you lose someone you love, if you have faith and believe in God you will see that loved one again someday in heaven on the streets of gold.

Its a song about the dead and resurection of Jesus

"Everything we hold could someday slip away" is a line that reminds me of our short lives on this earth. It seems that the person singing the song is seeing this too. And they are filled with hope and sorrow because when they feel like love comes to an end, they are also aware that someday they will walk with the one they love on streets of gold.

It is hard to have hope and sorrow together. I was given this song by a Christian guy I have a crush on, and even though I interpret the song to be about losing a loved one to death - it also can be about just loss. But even amidst feelings of loss, I have feelings of hope that the greatest love of all - the love of Christ - will fill us together as we someday walk on the streets of gold in heaven.

I think there's too much in the song that points to earthly love to think its about just death and heaven in general. I think its about a couple of Christian's who love each other but can't be together for one reason or another. Maybe they're already married to other people. And the song weaves back and forth between present and past and future. They know that if they do the right thing and stay faithful to what God wants them to do (possibly their marriages) when they do die they'll be together in heaven.
