Compare Lyrics

If I continue in this silence
Have I surrendered to this all?

If you continually divide us
I can't decide if that's a fault

[Incomprehensible]
Coming from, coming from

I can't believe the things that you'll say
I can't believe the things that you'll say
I can't believe the things that you'll say
To keep me around and here by your side

I can't believe the things that you'll say
I can't believe the things that you'll say
I can't believe the things that you'll say
They keep me around and here by your side

I can't believe the things that you'll say
I can't believe the things that you'll say
I can't believe the things that you'll say
Keep me around and close to your side

I'm not 100% on this, but I think the song may be about a certain depression the speaker is dealing with, or dealt with. I think the "you" in the song, is his own head. It seems as if he is talking to himself, or to his thoughts, asking why he thinks the things he does, and why he says the things he says. We get the idea of his thoughts invading, with the "come in from" lines - almost as if he is ambivalent towards his thoughts, like he is asking them to come in.

In the second line, he asks if he has "surrendered to this all." This idea of giving up or surrendering to his thoughts reappears later in the song. If you notice, at the end of each chorus verse, the final line changes, going from, "to keep me around and here by your side", to "they keep me around and here by your side", and "keep me around and close by your side." We can see that he is going from accusing his thoughts of trying to keep him by their side, to stating that they keep him by their side, and finally to demanding his thoughts to stay by his side. This is all simply done by changing one word in front of each final line.

This leads me to believe that he is slowly falling into a cycle, where he "can't believe the things he says", to admitting that he needs his depression, and eventually craves it, as though it has become a part of him and he can't let go.

Let it be clear that all this analysis was made on the assumption that the "you" in the song is his depression, or just his thoughts that he tells himself. It could surely be about a girl instead, in which case I am soooooooooooo off on this one.
