The Men Who Live Upstairs Lyrics
Behavior lies in the food we eat,
insipid sedatives.
Much of all those cloy chemicals are building up to give...
uncontrolled division of cells from the men who live upstairs.
Drowning us in saturation, for all minds to hum the same.
This deducer of lives is not a being, but profused meaning.
Sleeping during the day.
Why lack of living from what we're eating?
Go and be on your way, enter the tainment, dependent thought sent.
Lion's share of the whites is sleeping the thoughts with skin.
The next not physical fights, but will against stolid sin.
One time, let me take my memories for all time.
Heed the words of an author,
art of surfeit has hunger,
ours be taken away.
Heed the words of an author,
art of surfeit has hunger,
ours be taken away.
Who needs to do much more
then eat, sleep and
race through chores
then fight preservatives
and lose one day.
insipid sedatives.

this song is about the overindulgence in today's society. everyone's needs are immediately satiated. we all have a "lion's share," more than we need we do unnatural things like sleep during the day, take chemicals and drugs, and consume way more food than we need. good art (art of surfeit) needs hunger a meaningful life needs hunger of some sort
does anyone have any idea of who "the men that live upstairs" are...?
the "uncontrolled division of cells from the men who live upstairs." always made me think of a brain tumor. the men who live upstairs being your mind/thoughts/conscience and the uncontrolled division of cells being the cancer. but i never figured out how that might tie in to the rest..

I think it means the people who have power that are responsible for the things we consume and the things we do.
I strongly agree with Grace913.
That being said, I think the song is making reference to not only what we eat, but what is put in what we eat. All the poisons that we're spoon fed everyday due to our detachment with our own meals. Be it the hundreds of different pesticides, or preservatives, or the flouride that is purposely put into our food and water supply. It's not only in what we're eating either, the flouride, its in our toothpaste, cigarettes, wine, beer, cleaning solutions, everything. The list is endless.
There is a wealth of evidence and studies proving the harmful effects of these things and yet we continue to eat it up. Flouride especially scares me the most. It's a poison that is put directly into the water supply, said to have health benefits for your teeth, while in reality, it's slowly but surely attacking your body and several different areas of your brain, successfully lowering the average person's IQ by 20% in a lifetime. Infants, even more susceptible to flouride, is practically fed it from birth (formula+water=flouride formula). The majority of society is SO detached from what is really going on behind the curtain.

"They" (the people who live upstairs) are dumbing you down. Search for knowledge, read, learn, and form your own unbiased opinions, don't believe everything you hear. Especially if it's coming from that box in your living room.
