Relax your stare
It's laughing in my face
My foes beware
I am tired of losing grace
The child is not there
The priest is losing faith
Defile my care
And stumble to the flames
People crying, People crying
My confusion
Are there illusions?
....Hate
The dice will not lose
They have everything to gain
Devout prepare
The stones along my grave
People crying, People crying
My confusion
Are there illusions?
....Hate
Don't say a word
If I've been away too long
I've found out it's wrong
I found out....
I don't need hate
It's laughing in my face
My foes beware
I am tired of losing grace
The priest is losing faith
Defile my care
And stumble to the flames
My confusion
Are there illusions?
....Hate
They have everything to gain
Devout prepare
The stones along my grave
My confusion
Are there illusions?
....Hate
If I've been away too long
I've found out it's wrong
I found out....
I don't need hate

Talk Talk is seriously underrated if this is the first comment. Well, this track, from what my limited knowledge can deduce, tells the story of a man who does some sort of "gamble" (quite possibly his life itself) and ends up losing for it, becoming partially unstable and ending up in a furious rage that he knows will get him killed...
It seems to me that the song could be one of two things, either a person who is going though a serious gambling addiction who is losing everything around him - his friends, his family, his faith, his health etc. but is convinced one more big gamble will sort it all out. And if not then he's done for. Another is possibly the leader of a tribe or group that is on the edge of defeat, preparing for one last attack against their foes. In both cases near the end of the song, they find out that after a period of redemption that their actions were either needless or they finally understood the consequences of those people around them, "hate" being a metaphor for either the addiction or the simple irrational tribalism.
The version of this song on "The Party's Over" album is quite weak and too synth heavy - there is a version of the song that was once on You Tube performed live by the band in Dortmund for German Television that was at least 20x better.
