Carousels twirl all around exited youth.
I do not mind
at all.
We’re tonight in a world full of thrills—it can (come) carry me up,
far above
it all.
It’s a long way down
from here
to the sound.
Watch the faces
go ‘round—
to the stars
then the ground.
Ferris wheels carried us away
not so long ago.
Times I’ve betrayed.
Where would we be now if I had taken your hand?
Well the years they pass by slow
don’t they?
It’s a long way down
from here
to the sound.
Watch the faces
go ‘round—
to the stars
then the ground.
I do not mind
at all.
We’re tonight in a world full of thrills—it can (come) carry me up,

it all.

Watch the faces

I think its more or less about growing up and the people you leave behind when you grow up. the carousels and ferris wheels are just the carelessness of childhood (probably not the death thing).
possibly regretful song - where would we be if i had taken your hand? not to mention the basic 'things are always better when you're younger' - i.e. still entertained by carousels and ferris wheels.
just a thought. great song.
Seeing that they are on a Ferris Wheel, and he sings "Where would we be now if I had taken your hand?" it probably means that she falls from the Ferris Wheel. Maybe it's about someone - a childhood friend? - dying, or it is more of a metaphor of something else.
for me it's like a goodbye to his childhood or maybe to innocence... i think of carousels as actual carousels. but then verse three i think it sounds like he regrets losing it, the hand being his as a child if that makes any sense... i would love to hear more opinions though =)
