This song is so emotional. So morose, quiet, eventually becoming elegant and illustrated with resolve. I think the build-up, aside from being beautiful, is meant to suggest that silence and darkness are not the end in the big perspective of things. Even though "Your sighs...oh so quiet" is repeated at the very end, the mood is completely different.
