Patty Lee Lyrics
"Patty Lee, turn the lights on, please
There's something I don't understand
Patty Lee, turn the lights on please
This party's gotten out of hand."
Those were the last words her suitor spoke before he croaked
In seven seconds he'd be dead, tied to the headboard of Patty Lee's bed
"Patty Lee, turn the lights on, please
There's something I don't understand
Patty Lee, turn the lights on please
This party's gotten out of hand."
Patty Lee sloughed her skin and showed what was within
It's hard to describe, she moved like smoke and sounded like ice
"Patty Lee, turn the lights on, please
There's something I don't understand
Patty Lee, turn the lights on please
This party's gotten out of hand."
We used to be gods
Now we're so plain
It took ten million years
Just to say my real name
Back before Babylon
Shit was cool
Now we've all got our saddles on
We trot to school
If I may wax poetic
I think the facts are plain
I am the moon ascendant
I am not soon to wane
See my shadows, twice the mountain
Or stretched across the desert plain
Shouting sun flares up like fountains
Shouting planets down like rain
There's something I don't understand
Patty Lee, turn the lights on please
This party's gotten out of hand."

Wow. This song is amazing.
one of my fav LSF songs, musically and lyrically .. awesome
I haven't completely worked out everything going on lyrically but there is a 19th century poem called "Patty Lee" by some English fellow named Brodrick. it's on Google books, easy to find
the poem is about this mysterious gypsy girl who is more than what she seems and probably bad news
King William the Second's murder (alleged! it was never proven) is mentioned as well ... awesome poem if you have the time to read it and it wouldn't surprise me if it was an inspiration for the song
a side note: there are interesting parallels between William 'Rufus' II, son of William the Conqueror, and the current leader of USA's Executive Branch
just got a note from Tim Harrington - the song has nothing to do with the poem, just an odd coincidence that there are similarities there
anyone out there have any ideas on this song's meaning? clearly, the moon is a key element, but I must say it almost seems the lyrics are intentionally open-ended towards the end

Les Savy Fav are lyrical geniuses, clearly.
awsomee song and video! i totally want to learn how to dance like the girl on the video!
This song reminds me of that season of the Joss Whedon show, "Angel," wherein a god in the guise of a human is trying to take over earth. Her earth name is Jasmine, but to break her curse they have to speak her real name. To get that name they have to go to her home planet in another dimension.
On Dinner with the Band, Tim Harrington says it's about a guy and girl having sex and then all of a sudden the girl turns into a literal monster; like a dragon or lizard or evil god.
