Two Kinds Lyrics

You ask me what would happen if all strangers turned to stone
I'll tell you what might happen if we could always be alone
Alone

Time out, is it time out? I'll take my best guess
Cause I'm out if I'm in doubt, unless you contest

There's two kinds of love
And one we used to know
There's two kinds of love
And one we used to know

I know I know I know

There's two kinds of love
And one we used to know
There's two kinds of love
And one we used to know
There's two kinds of love
And one we used to know
She says
There's two kinds of love
And one we used to know

for anyone mildly intrigued as what the two kinds of love could be, (as far as I know) they are platonic and romantic love. I guess he's referring to the romantic one.

My Opinion

I agree, but I believe the "one we used to know" is a past love. Platonic, Romantic, and past love. His love interest reminds him of the ones he lost. And he fears she might be another to the list.

My take: The love he and his significant other "used to know" was passionate, romantic love. That has fizzled into platonic love, and he is beginning to understand that his S.O. is ready to take a break, a "time out." He's saying he's done with the whole thing unless she shows fights to rekindle their romantic relationship -- "unless you contest."
