Cover the Roots, Lower the Stems Lyrics

You know it’s really hard to do, to think of anyone but you
And how your soul lives in my own
The trees are growing roots that will hold your heart inside your chest where you lay
Fear no more my son, because someday the trees will sing
And I know that someday will come,
Where the trees are growing roots among the place we used to sit and breathe the air.
Someday, someday the trees will sing,
“Oh my god! My heart is with you now! And your body is growing roots that will hold your feelings down. And I will sing a song for you, where a thousand pandas dance under the warmth and ocean blue.”

Ok, I simply adore this band and all of their songs, this one is my favourite in album.

Moving Mountains use a srong "nature theme" in their songs, a harmony between nature and mankind. Pneuma means "breath" in greek, the word also used in religious context for "spirit", in stoic philosphy means "animating warm breath, in both the cosmos and the body", in ancient medicine it's used to describe "the circulating air that is necessary for the systemic functioning of vital organs". Also Anaximenes of Miletus (Pre-Socratic philosopher) describes it as "air in motion, breath, wind" as his words "As our souls, being air, hold us together, so breath and air embrace the entire universe."

There's a great affection in their songs, mostly for the nature. It's not just about two people loving each other, but more like a metaphor to describe the love against the earth and the harmony of all life on it. They use love as it's purest form, as energy and life, the life giving force that connects all the living together as well two person loving eachother. You can also find a strong taste of "evolution" in their songs. My opinion is their main theme is about love & nature. They kinda say without the earth, the sky and the oceans there's no love.

this entire album to me, as amazing as it is, i would call it quite the opposite.

This song and 8105 is a tie for me as the greatest song on the album. 8105 uses horns which is taking a slight advantage.

My Opinion

Greg Dunn had an interview for some radio station and he said the song is about a friend of his who died. The interview is on the MM facebook, feel free to scope it out.

Based on the recurring lyrical themes in each song, I'd say the lyrics in Pneuma are probably primarily about this person that died.
