Basement Parties Lyrics
When you wake up on your face on the bedroom carpet
Count back all the ways that you ended up there
You can't remember someone else's story
You can't remember that you don't feel sorry
Get up, get out -- the lines are gone, with the green you're leaving
I don't mind silence, I don't mind sitting
I can be quiet, I wish you could hear me
You go back, you repeat, trace the veins that you don't want to see
With your hands, in your hair -- don't leave your fingers buried
Do you think that we could try forgetting
The places we've gone with the ceiling spinning
Slow down until we stop
We have to steal this night back
I don't mind silence, I don't mind sitting
I can be quiet, I wish you could hear me
I'm tired of going to these basement parties
Everybody wants to leave their body
I'm hiding in the bathroom with no witness
Speaking through the door about some sickness
I don't mind silence, I don't mind sitting
I can be quiet, I wish you could hear me
I don't mind silence, I don't mind sitting
I'm keeping the quiet, I wish you could hear me
Count back all the ways that you ended up there
You can't remember someone else's story
You can't remember that you don't feel sorry
Get up, get out -- the lines are gone, with the green you're leaving
I can be quiet, I wish you could hear me
With your hands, in your hair -- don't leave your fingers buried
Do you think that we could try forgetting
The places we've gone with the ceiling spinning
Slow down until we stop
We have to steal this night back
I can be quiet, I wish you could hear me
Everybody wants to leave their body
I'm hiding in the bathroom with no witness
Speaking through the door about some sickness
I can be quiet, I wish you could hear me
I don't mind silence, I don't mind sitting
I'm keeping the quiet, I wish you could hear me

Great song... I think the meaning is pretty simple.
wow, only one comment for this song? i don't know who can't relate to "I don't mind silence, I don't mind sitting. I can be quiet, wish you could hear me."
This song talks about some girl who apparently frequents “basement parties” and embodies the lifestyle that such a party would calls for.
The song starts off by painting a picture of the night after such a parties. She wakes up on sleeping on floor and she can’t exactly remember how she got there. She then discovers that she’s in some strangers room, “can’t remember someone else’s story.” And she had apparently told herself the night before that she wouldn’t feel bad hooking up with this random person, but now all she feels is regret, “can’t remember that you don’t feel sorry.” And since all the “lines” are gone, with the first chance she gets, she bolts.
The chorus is then from someone else’s perspective. Someone who doesn’t mind the silence, and doesn’t mind just sitting at home doing nothing. He doesn’t feel the need to go to these loud parties, “can be quiet.” And all he wants is for her to understand that. This guy could be her boyfriend or some lost admirer, but either way, he goes to these parties with her, but clearly doesn’t enjoy it. And all he wants is for her to listen to reason, “I wish you could hear me.”
The second verse finds us again with this girl, who is once again at these parties. She “traces [her] veins” that she doesn’t want to see; she’s a junkie of sorts, but hates that she is, she just doesn’t know how to stop. She’s stressing out about it, but does another hit as she buries her fingers in her hair. While he watches on and wishes she won’t “leave her fingers buried,” wishing that she won’t stay lost.
He then tries to plead with her, that maybe they could just get away from there and just forget everything that happened at these basement parties. “Slow down until we stop.” And then he sincerely hopes that they can reclaim the night and forget these horrible things.
The last verse speaks of how he’s so sick of going to these parties where everyone just goes there to escape reality. But he can’t leave his girl. So instead, he looks himself in the bathroom alone. And when people ask if he’s alright in there, he makes up some ‘lie’ about being sick.
The final part of the chorus changes the tone a little bit, by saying instead that he’s “keeping the quiet,” not just that he “can be quiet.” This is almost like his silent prayer that he will wait for the girl until she’s ready to change her life; he’s saying that he will be there when she’s finally ready, but until then, he’s “keeping the quiet.”
I think the song is all about drug taking and the randomness comes along with it. Lines are gone with the green your leaving! Trace the veins that you don't want to see! Both I think are drug references and I think that, I'm hiding in the bathroom with no witness, is where the drugs are being taken!
