Battles Lyrics
Cursed by my imagination,
Teeming with echoes of situations.
I do not feel well,
Pressed beneath this spell.
Polishing my social skills
With one more drink and two more pills.
I do not feel good.
I thought by now I would.
[Chorus.]
But then again,
It's like one thousand paper cuts,
soaked in vinegar.
like the battles with yourself
that leave you insecure
It's all just a nulling charade
Until the day you finally wake up
and you're not,
afraid.
Bound by my own disposition,
an endless hunt to find for wishing.
I'm insatiable, even if my cup is full.
My sore throats are now routine.
I gotta write those songs,
make 'em scream.
They're insatiable,
even if their ears are full.
[Chorus.]
Teeming with echoes of situations.
I do not feel well,
Pressed beneath this spell.
With one more drink and two more pills.
I do not feel good.
I thought by now I would.
But then again,
It's like one thousand paper cuts,
soaked in vinegar.
like the battles with yourself
that leave you insecure
It's all just a nulling charade
Until the day you finally wake up
and you're not,
afraid.
an endless hunt to find for wishing.
I'm insatiable, even if my cup is full.
My sore throats are now routine.
I gotta write those songs,
make 'em scream.
They're insatiable,
even if their ears are full.

Incorporating the line from drunken ballerina waltz in a song like this is a bit strange it doesn't actually fit but I really enjoy the verses of this song sounds like the person is playing a role that isn't them and they are not fully satisfied with themselves ever and neither are the people they are playing the role for.
Your lyrics are a bit off kilter. They go like this,
"Cursed by my imagination Teaming with echoes of situations I do not feel well, pressed beneath this spell.
Polishing my social skills With one more drink, and two more pills. I do not feel good, I thought by now I would.
But then again...
It's like one thousand papercuts, Soaked in vinegar. Like the battles with yourself, That leave you insecure. It's all just a numbing charade, Until the day you finally wake up And you're not, Afraid.

And all in all, I think this song is a look into the whole 'Perils a band can face on the road'. Facing all of the "battles" that happen when you're touring and trying to deal with being famous.
i'm so excited for the new album, i love it!
The song is good dont get me wrong just ish they wouldnt use the line feels like a 100 paper cuts soaked in vinegar. Its from Druken Ballerina Waltz which is also an amazing son, they should release it. =]
I agree with you seedeater91, but anyways, it doesn't bother me much, it's a good metaphor lolz. I love the new album... I'm buying it tomorrow, but I was soooo desparate, I had to dl it XD. I know, I'm really bad, but I try to support them as much as I can
yeah i found it pretty cheesy that nick used the DBW line in Battles. But then again, most of The Concept and Jugular became the Sunsets and Car Crashes album, so its not the first time nick has shimmied things together.
i'm thinking low of them on this song, i'm disappointed that they reused a lyric already. because druken ballerina waltz is soo good and they sorta ruin it with this song. i kinda don't like this song. just the beat sounds so, um, idk, normal. it doesn't seem like them.
Go on and Absolutepunk.net and I actually asked him (In an interview conducted by a staff member) why he reused the lyric. His response was because he always loved that line, and felt it wasn't done the right amount of justice in "Drunken Ballerina Waltz" and felt it fit much better in the new song.
Well what nirv said makes perfect sense then. and it's a great song. I'm thinking maybe it was hard to sing some of the songs he wrote about...reminding him of bad memories.
