The Last Thing On Your Mind Lyrics

Don't think too hard, if you think it hurts that bad.
Don't talk about it, don't let it get you down.
It's only one part, of the story.
Just let it go, don't let it bring you down, now.

Sing the last thing on your mind,
The last word on your breath.
I'll be the one to keep you,
I'll keep you at your best.
The last thing on your mind,
'Cause I don't need your mess.
I'll be the one to keep you,
One disaster less.

Straighten up your tie, take the microphone.
Forget about it, don't let it get you down.
Now is not the time, and you're not alone.
Shut up about it, no one can bring you down now.

Sing the last thing on your mind,
The last word on your breath.
I'll be the one to keep you,
I'll keep you at your best.
The last thing on your mind,
'Cause I don't need your mess.
I'll be the one to keep you,
One disaster less.

I'll be okay.

I'll be okay, if you'll sing...

The last thing on your mind,
The last word on your breath.
I'll be the one to keep you,
I'll keep you at your best.
The last thing on your mind,
'Cause I don't need your mess.
I'll be the one to keep you,
One disaster less.

The last thing on your mind,
The last word on your breath.
I'll be the one to keep you,
I'll keep you at your best.
The last thing on your mind,
'Cause I don't need your mess.
I'll be the one to keep you,
One disaster less.

Yeah, this song is obviously to herself. I heard her say before that she doesn't write a lot of romantic songs. Most of the time in her songs she's singing to herself.

The line, "Sing the last thing on your mind," is...well, picture this. She has just gone through something really bad, and now she has to get up on stage and sing a song about something totally different. She has to such it up and get the job done. Whatever it was that she's been through, she can't let it get the best of her and effect her on stage, or in life.

I think this song carries a message to all of us that, yeah the world sucks, but that shouldn't hold us back, nor should our feelings hold us back, from doing what we need to do. Basicly, have a positive attitude regardless of the circumstances.

Also, her being a Christian, I believe the "I'll" could be her telling herself that she'll keep herself in check, but I think it's more plausible that it's God telling her this.

Your interpretation took on a new meaning of the song for me. I never considered that it could be about God, although I know a lot of her songs are. It seems much more encouraging and meaningful when you put it that way, as if God is talking to directly to her and us through this song.

I usually can't stand high-pitched female vocalists, but the melody and words of this song more than make up for it. I have it on repeat.

You know, I haven't talked about this song to anyone else and there aren't many other comments about this song on here yet, so I don't have anything to compare my meaning of this song to... but I'll share it anyway. To me, I don't think she's singing to a lover-- I think she's singing to herself. I mean, it's totally plausible that she could be singing to a guy ("Straighten up your tie" would probably be aimed toward a man), but I can't see how the first verse could go along with that. However, if she is singing this to herself, she's kinda telling herself "Hey... it's a lot easier if I just don't think about how much this actually hurts.." Like how people don't want to really say "i love you" because it would make it that much harder to get over him/her. The second verse is kind of her moving on... She's just be okay if she keeps singing and doesn't let anyone get to her. Anyway.. that's how I read the song.

I love how the second chorus is sung more powerful than the first one. It sounds amazing, she is very talented.

i do believe the song is about her telling herself "it'll be okay"

but i don't understand why it says

"'Cause I don't need your mess.

I'll be the one to keep you,

One disaster less."
