Hey Big Spender Lyrics

The minute you walked in the joint
I could see you were a man of distinction.
A real big spender,
Good lookin', so refined.
Say, wouldn't you like to know
What's goin on in my mind?

So let me get to the point.
I don't pop my cork for every guy I see.
Hey big spender,
Spend a little time with me.

Wouldn't you like to have fun, fun, fun?
How's about a few laughs, laughs, laughs?
I can show you a good time.
Let me show you a good time.

The minute you walked in the joint
I could see you were a man of distinction.
A real big spender,
Good lookin', so refined.
Say, wouldn't you like to know
What's goin on in my mind?

So let me get to the point.
I don't pop my cork for every guy I see.
Hey big spender,
Hey big spender,
Hey big spender,
Spend a little time with me.

This is such a fun song and it was soooo popular even before my time. It's not a song about love. It's a song about a woman looking for opportunity, and she's found it with a man of means...he has money and distinction, so she's willing and able to spend time with him. In essence, it's kind of like a song about prostitution, just a different kind. Makes me think of all the times I see old men with hair pieces in sports cars...and a young blond bombshell sitting beside him in the car. He could very well be a great catch minus his money, but the odds aren't that great for him should his money disappear. (Man, I have generalized:)

This is what Wiki says about the song: "Big Spender" is a song written by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields for the musical Sweet Charity, first performed in 1966. It is sung, in the musical, by the dance hostess "girls"; it was choreographed by Bob Fosse for the Broadway musical and the film.[1] It is "set to the beat of a striptease" as the girls "taunt" the customers. A hit version of the song by Shirley Bassey reached #21 in the UK Singles Chart in December 1967. This version featured in the 2004 film The Life and Death of Peter...
