Don't get any big ideas
They're not gonna happen

You paint yourself white
And fill up with noise
There'll be something missing

Now that you've found it, it's gone
Now that you feel it, you don't
You've gone off the rails

So don't get any big ideas
They're not gonna happen

Ooh, you'll go to Hell
For what your dirty mind is thinking

    My Interpretation

For me it's about being in love whilst knowing its not gonna happen, knowing she doesn't love you, or rejected you.

Hence the title nude: Nude is referring to how naked, vulnerable we are when we're in love. You've made yourself so vulnerable for emotions, you feel naked towards the one you love, your heart and soul has been stripped from its protection, its armour, leaving you nude. The song is spoken in third person, the narrator is speaking towards himself, or it's like its conscience, his sense talking to him.

"Don't get any big ideas They're not going to happen"

This is the narrator reminding himself it's not gonna happen, trying to convince himself of the impossibility, hoping that it might help him get over her. Because this feeling of nudeness is painful, he hates it, no man wants to be this vulnerable, nude towards the world.

"You paint yourself white And fill up with noise But there'll be something missing"

You paint yourself free and clean of the love, the nude, try to hide everything that reminds you of the stupidity you're in, you try to fill yourself up with noise, with things to compensate for the void in your heart, friends, partys, activities, whatever, but in the end, it just won't fill the void; something'll be missing.

"Now that you've found it, it's gone Now that you feel it, you don't You've gone off the rails"

The paradoxes are referring to how you think you've found the love, but then discovered it'll never be yours. It's there, but never yours; You were on the rails to love, but somehow you got off them, coincidentally, through internal or external influences, I dont know.

But in the end, you still love her. You want her, no matter what, since that's simply what you feel. Even though you know it's not gonna happen, that maybe the consequences are terrible, you still want her, you can't help thinking about her, longing for her. You can't help having this 'dirty' mind, with 'dirty' desires and wishes, that'll never come true. You'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking.

A possibility is that like in other songs like House of Cards and Fake Plastic Trees, that the girl the guy wants already has someone else. So that might contribute to the "dirtyness" of the "mind".

Anyways love this song, kinda resembles some of my situations, so I thought I'd give my interpretation on it, thanks for reading.

    Jin over and out :)

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
